Low & behold, wouldn't you know? The show last night at the Saxon Pub was the best ever! I have never seen a band where the show is always better than the last.. most bands you go to see a couple of times it just becomes a chore & a bore - "OK, seen it- who's next?"

Not so with Rambler Rose- you never know what to expect and unlike so many bands anywhere (not just Austin) they truly understand that they are there to entertain and put on the best show you will see anywhere.

Other than the odd time (midnight on a Sunday) it was the most perfect night & the most entertaining thing I have seen this year! It was my first time to see Kitty, the new keyboard player (having accidentally missed the Mohawk show) & I have say she fits much better into the band than their last keyboard player - although good, he was just too serious! Kitty is a riot - not to mention she is an excellent musician (that's a big one).

The Saxon Pub is a downright serious club and some truly great artists have played there throughout the years and in your perceptive narrator's view - Rambler Rose is the next great Austin band.

The band sounded just incredible & Tom had the place completely in the palm of his hand with his sly humor & wit between each song. In the 10 years I have been in Austin I have never seen a band like that! Besides the best music and songs you heard since god knows when, you get a full blown comedy show as well - it's rare that anyone can actually make me laugh out loud and Tom does it in spades. And Christina just looks and sounds so Austiny - if you could wrap Austin up into one package it would have to be Christina. She is simply mesmerizing on stage.

I saw a lot of the crowd that wandered in later outside when I first arrived and they were mostly all aloof & cool.. when they wandered in and saw the band they turned into children! Beaming

Bio

Rambler Rose is an Austin quartet that debuted in early 2010. The band recorded their duo debut in 2009 with husband and wife team, Tom and Christina Shoptaw. Tom plays acoustic guitar and sings, Christina plays brush snare percussion and sings. Rambler Rose made their live debut February 2010 and have already played Austin staple clubs including: Momo's, Mohawk, United States Art Authority, The Saxon Pub, Red Eyed Fly, and residencies at Spiderhouse and Blue Velvet. Early on they added keyboardist/pianist Kitty McHone, and most recently Jenny Sevilla on violin. They performed live in the studio on KOOP 91.7FM in Austin in August. In October they return to studio to record their quartet debut- Costume Party. They are currently shooting videos and booking regional tours.
The group has a textured sound, weaving male female harmonies, piano/ violin melodies and percussion in a variety of up-beat folk pop tunes, as well as more introspective lovely mood songs. The band has lively stage banter and has an eclectic vintage theatrical vaudeville style.
It adds up to a fun and fulfilling night out.
