Bio
The fusion of rhythms, sounds and languages that characterizes Ramon Chicharron comes from his colombian roots, a place where salsa, champeta and afro-colombian rythms of cumbia take part of everyday life. Leaving Medellin, Colombia, at the age of 19, he first arrived in Ontario and then moved to Montreal in 2005. He started his first musical project called Ramon y su son, and launched is first EP (Pal' Monte) in 2011.
Looking for a sound that would be closer to his colombian roots, he started recording in his home-made studio in Montreal and came out with a new project he named Ramon Chicharron. He launched the album Uepaje, in December 2015. Celebrating the ancestral afro-colombian rhythms of cumbia, bullerengue, son corrido, tambora and puya, to which he adds trombone, clarinet, psycho-tropical guitar, Ramon Chicharron creates a musical fusion he calls cumbia chicharronica. With lyrics talking about pachamama (« Puya Amazonica ») and the plight of migrants (« El tren », « Planeta Flotante »), he hopes to spread a message of consciousness while preserving the afro-colombian folklore.
In July 2016, he received the prize “Coup de Coeur” at Festival Traditions du Monde de Sherbrooke and on January 28th, he was on the tv show "Belle et Bum".
At the moment, he works on his second album that he is recording in Colombia. The album will be launched in the summer 2017.
