Bio
Whether working with a young Canadian filmaker on a film soundtrack (Emile et Sophie, dir.Sebastien Gangé 2005), performing with a Canadian author to promote her new novel (Madeleine Thien, Certainty2005) or songwriting with some of the best musicians in Canada, (co-songwriter with Pat the White, Reviver Bros.2005 co-songwriter with Sebasten Plant of The Respectables, for a demo that won them a Canada Council grant for their next recording to be in English for 2007) Acoustic-Folk aritist Randall Spear loves to celebrate the privilege of being a Canadian singer-songwriter.
Born in Montreal in 1968, Randalls Irish traditional roots (his grandfather Patrick Oneil was an Irish folk musician) combined with the influence of his brother in law, Bob Beauchamp, who was a DJ for CHOM FM in the 70s, and had a 3000 record collection, formed his love for both folk and commercial music.
Randall studied classical guitar and compostion before he began to play his own songs live. After winning his first songwriting competition..in French no less..at Laval University, Randall never stopped writing and performing original music.
Randall has performed throughout Canada, from Acadian folk festivals in Havre-St-Pierre to downtown bars in Toronto, and has been a member of SOCAN for over fifteen years. He has won a grant from FACTOR for a professional demo, and won a songwriting contest for CHOI FM in Quebec city in which his song Un autre jour reached number 53 in provinces BDS charts.
Randall's performances have won him a loyal following and shows booked in cultural centres, concert halls, cafés, colleges and bars across the country. In other words: wherever original Canadian songwriting is welcomed, Randall feels right at home.
Now Randall has colaborated with André Lavernge ( a very talented guitarist and arranger) and together they are proud to present songs from their new recording The Most Important Thing (Big Blue World Music 2006), which has already received critical acclaim from their live promotional performances for CBC radio and GLOBAL television.
With great musicianship, superb songwriting & excellent performances, Randall Spear is an artist to discover.
