"Artist to Watch: Randy Class"

On any given week there are hundreds of shows to see in New York City. It’s impossible to hit all of them, so the experts on the My Social List team will be hand-picking their “can’t miss” artists for the week.

Who They Are: Randy Class is a singer/songwriter, who we first featured right here on Friday Follow. Born and raised in the Bronx, Class taught himself to play the guitar and strengthened his vocal abilities in church.

What They Sound Like: Pure unadorned soul, following in the tradition of great soul singers from the past, with a youthful edge and classy-ness (see what I did there?. The vocals are sweet and laid-back with true confidence and an unpretentious warmth.

What They’re Up To: Randy Class is currently working on his as yet untitled debut album. I’ve been in touch with his manager at Blank Label, and he shared a hot off the presses song Class just completed for the project (btw, it’s real good). Unfortunately, they’re not ready to release it to the masses just yet, but I’ll be sure to have it for you as soon as it’s available. In the meantime, take a look at the video below, where you can see him hard at work in the studio.

Where To See ‘Em: Class is in session (sorry, couldn’t help myself) tomorrow, Thursday, January 23rd at Leftfield. The performance is guaranteed to be something special.

Bio

Music isnt something that you discover, its something that discovers you. As apart of your very being, it lies in wait for you to finally bloom. For the Dominican born Bronx native and musical sensualist, singing has been an element of everyday life since he began to listen to his mothers radio in their Bronx apartment. Thus, Randy Class began his foray into music by soaking it all in. Out of the rooftops and rolling hills that define the Bronxs asphalt laden landscape. He had his sights on the famed LaGuardia School For the Arts, and although that didnt work, out of nowhere his cousin Arnaldo Perez comes to his rescue and suggests Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music. In his own words, If it wasnt for him, everything in my life would be different. There, his talents were truly allowed to flourish. He states, Even though I had influences, I always wanted to do everything myself. Creativity is organic. It rolls up out of the earth only after certain conditions are met. But there are the obvious ones: Michael Jackson, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Biggie Smalls. Then there are the ones that seep into your bones: the Merengue, Bachata, Salves, and Palo that are his birth right. This zeal is the precise driving force behind his current project and soon to be hits like Cocaine Kisses and True Story. Plus, as a self taught dynamo on the guitar, piano and others, Randy Class is no stranger to passion fueling his technique. Being around prodigiously talented musicians like his main producer Jerry Almonte and signature co-writer Brent Saunder, hes carved out an aural-scape that is set to blaze a trail to the alter of his dreams. Hes stolen the show at the BMI sponsored Live At Oz produced by Next2Shines Andrew Cardenas as well rocked music showcases at L.E.Ss Viktor & Spoils. Having done all this and come this far Randy knows hes got a ways to go, and he knows he is laying the groundwork necessary to transition into the next phase of his career. He is also making sure to have a hell of a time doing it.
