Randy Mason Vs On The Prowl

Randy Mason is a young mc from the Bronx, New York City. He's been perfecting his lyrical stylings since a young age, trying to capture the elusive beauty and positive energy growing up in an often-negative environment surrounded by forces that would rather have him dead or in prison. Randy hooked up with producer/engineer/ musician David Yawman in 2005 through an ad in Craigslist, booking sessions in David's Harlem based studio to record his debut mix tape "Under The Influence", which made quite a stir in the underground hip hop community.
On The Prowl is a punk band composed of David Yawman and Amy Farid, and various other ever-changing members, playing the underground New York club scene since late 2000. Their brand of noise has been compared to the Ramones, X, and The Stooges, among others.
In between penning anthems about coping with serious mood swings and inability to hold a job, David became inspired by Randy to produce some "Hip Hop" beats, varied and moody, ranging from hard punk to jazzy and sometimes very poppy. Working together, David would give Randy an instrumental, Randy would write lyrics, record, David would often evolve the instrumentals in response to the lyrics. The recordings are a combination of live and electronic instruments and the live band plays interpretations of the recorded songs, removing all boundaries and leaving room for improvisation.
