Raoul & Black Friday

Biography

Raoul Roux, as front man and Lead
Guitarist, is electrifying! Alongside him, are tight nit, solid, blistering
blues outfit, Raoul and Black Friday!

Rocking’ Blues in a style which is
anything but laid back. Setting the bar at an international level and never
settling for less – that’s Raoul and Black Friday. Raoul and Black Friday
describe their style as “ever evolving, learning and developing using blues as
the fundamental style.”

The band are technically brilliant and a fine tuned machine but they are much
more than instrumental virtuoso’s: their playing underpins a true blues passion
for their music.

“You must LIVE the music,” says Raoul. And they do! The band’s live
performances take their audience on an exhilarating blues journey of audio and
visual stimulation. Roux says: “I’d like to leave a stamp on blues.
Ultimately we all want to be recognised. Although nothing is truly original I
try to put my take on the music by playing from the heart combined with my
understanding of blues played by the greats!” Unlike many blues bands,
Raoul and Black and Friday’s original music has lyrics that are unusually
poetic for this genre and music that challenges the norms of the genre.

The band, formed in 2010, was the brainchild of Raoul Roux, front man, lead
guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Raoul and Black Friday performs a blend of
Blues/Rock and appeals to young and old alike, across the demographic
spectrum.

Raoul and Black Friday have headlined
many Festivals, to name but a few:

·       STRAB (Mozambique and Nelspurit)

·       Splashy Fen

·       Up The Creek Festival

·       Table Mountain Blues Summit

·       Durban International Blues Festival

·       Rock and Roll Festival at Sexpo 2013

Raoul and Black Friday have also
shared the stage with top South
African artists, to name but a few:

·       Dan Patlansky

·       Albert Frost

·       Arno Carstens

·       Black Cat Bones

·       Boulevard Blues Band

Raoul Roux – Guitars and Vocals: At 20 he started his career by playing with the internationally
successful metal band, Never Machine Forever.

He later studied music (Jazz) at Pretoria Technikon and received his degree in
music (BMUS) in 2004. During this time he worked as a session musician and
performed around South Africa touring. These bands include Bryan Adams, 3
Minute Solution, Hands down, Movie 55, Van Coke Kartel, Maz D, Nianel etc. He
also formed the following bands: Jazz trio Triplicat - Hugo and Raoul jazz
guitar duo, Jazz quartet with Marc Duby, Wessel van Rensburg, Marius Appelgrein
and Acoustic Moods with David Houghton.

Roux has also performed in Hairspray the Musical - The Lyric Theatre, Saturday
Night Fever - The Lyric Theatre and for international star Patrizio Buanne live
- Carnival City

Among South African Blues Circles
Raoul and Black Friday are considered one of the most underrated bands in SA. R&BF
have just released their Debut Album “Say It Ain’t So”, which has been
broadcast and played all over South African Radio Stations, as well as Mark
Kerr’s “Blues Nation” in Dallas Texas, and are already working on a second!
They hope to take the country by storm, with a touring schedule that will see
them spreading their blues magic across the country.
