Brooklyn is filled with new and refreshing artists. You can discover new talent everyday just going into a lounge or checking any local concert venues. It was a night filled with clear skies and great vibes when I happen to walk into Drom in New York on December 22 and heard a great band called Ras Majesty and the New Vibrations Band. I was hooked and then began my obsession. I started checking their webpage everyday for an update on new music. So comes the new, inspiring single Pik We Up from the upcoming album.
The main singer Ras Majesty aka Ty hails from The Bay Area in California and has a voice reminiscent of a young Bob Marley and the conscious words of K’naan. Ty, is a self taught musician, ranging from drums, keys, to guitar. His laid back upbringing of the Cali way and his Hawaiian heritage, reflects in his music and brings roots and self awareness to the mass.
Pik We Up was inspired by Ty’s first encounter of being in a new big city with out his close friends from California near but always maintaining his positivity with the most high by his side. The single inspires you to get up no matter how down you feel, which is the perfect antidote of being in a fast and sometimes cold city. Its a warm cup of coffee or a morning prayer to get you started off on a good note. Written and Produced by him, this is the beginning of a bright career for Ras Majesty. RAS MAJESTY Roots Reggae Dancehall music and voice embodies a young Bob Marley and Richie Spice fused with the modern day sense of Chronixx, or Protoje. He often notes social awareness and struggle while seamlessly tapping into deep spaces in his true to life love songs and rastaman chants and prayers.
Born of Native Columbian and Irish decent in San Francisco, and raised in a Hawaiian home outside of Oakland, CA - RAS MAJESTY found himself in a unique part of the world where progressive minds flourished alongside the blending of cultural influences and traditions. As a child he traveled with his grandparents who toured as a Hawaiian island band, thus introducing the young child to his love and diverse understanding of music. He was able to learn a few instruments by the age of 13, and taught himself music production software by the age of 17. In his twenties he struggled with life to finally earn a degree in audio engineering in 2008, having already recorded, produced and performed in various projects throughout the years.
In 2011 RAS MAJESTY took a career changing course and moved to Brooklyn, to begin a new chapter on the East coast. So far, RAS MAJESTY has settled incredibly well by forming and becoming musical director of a band of roots reggae musicians and backing reggae artists, throwing and promoting events, while also opening and operating a 24-track recording studio, recording and producing other musicians, artists and vocalists, and helping connect the dots.
RAS MAJESTY has had the chance to perform on stages with artists such as The Original Wailers, Ky-mani Marley, Ikaya, Autarchii, Raging Fyah, New Kingston Band,
No-Maddz, Khari Kill, Metric Man, Royal Khaoz, The Tosh Marley Band, Jah Sun, Sublime with Rome, Jordan-T, Fully Fullwood, Mystic Roots, Living Legends, Native Elements, KRS-One, Zion-I, Skadanks, Hieroglyphics, Bayonics and more.
In June 2014 RAS MAJESTY released his first official single and music video entitled "Pik We Up", that was filmed in Puerto Rico. In August 2017 a second single and video many fans have been waiting for entitled "Summer Daze" was dropped, and in Sept 2018 he released the collab track "You Are The Light" with NYC artist and compadre NACHY BLESS, all which are published by his self made label GRAND LION PRODUCTIONS, and are available on all Digital outlets. He is currently continuing works toward an upcoming Album.
RAS MAJESTY prides himself on being a diverse Reggae artist that can create a sound that embodies word, sound and power. In the near future he looks to focus on more songwriting while continuing to expand his resume and fan base. In the meantime; more shows, love, and good reggae music in Brooklyn, NYC.
