Bio

Ras Marcus Benjamin

Born and raised in New York City on March 21st 1960, Ras Marcus Benjamin has been writing and performing poetry for nearly three decades. After first writing Beat Poetry, his work evolved into the art form Dub Poetry—inspired by the revolutionary Reggae beat and artists such as Louise Bennett, Mutabaruka, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Malachi Smith, Benjamin Zephaniah and Oku Onoru.

Ras Marcus Benjamin published a book of poetry entitled “Dub Talking,” a phrase he coined while growing up in New York City. He has two Dub poems, released over his original Dub songs “Outrage” and “Cry Freedom.” He has 10 others Dub poems to be released at a later date. He is currently working on a Nyabinghi Dub Poetry album, which will be the first of its kind and aptly called “Dub Talking.”
