"Rascal F. Kennedy, Diary of a Kool Kid"

Long-overdue rap tapes coming right before SXSW make perfect sense. Rascal F. Kennedy has been making the rounds with a string of singles from Diary of a Kool Kid; now, with the full project out, he’s shifted the conversation a bit. His second-delay rhyme pattern is littered all over DKK, from “Gold Spokes” to "Herbitual Healing,” and it manifests in a press-go-when-you-really-need-to approach. The occasional bar for bar display makes appearances whenever Yung Knight’s on the boards, but for everyone else? Rascal’s about as chill as you can be, dropping his idea of cool-kid wisdom while the beat stays just ahead of him. - Houston Press

"Rascal F. Kennedy, Never"

Every rapper will for a long while rap about his eventual rise. Some do it well and some are rote in it. It turns into becoming the one note said rappers play their entire career. Rascal F. Kennedy is still somewhere in the early stages, mixing the mental exploration comic books allow you to have with coming up on the southeast side of town for “Never." It’s always self, then crew, then everybody else. That’s typically how rap hierarchies work. - Houston Press

"Rascal F. Kennedy feat. Judell Rome – “Big Spender”"

You’ve heard Shirley Bassey’s “Big Spender” sample plenty of times. The last couple of times were by Theopilus London and Freeway. Now we’ve got another one with Rascal F. Kennedy & his fellow Brainkiller compadre Judell Rome. Their “Big Spender,” complete with lavish, braying horns and syncopated production is just one big ball of braggadocios fun. The track is no doubt a small offset to all of the discussion about freedom and revolution that’s going to pack Rascal F. Kennedy’s upcoming Sunset Ln. project set to drop after all the SXSW madness concludes on March 23rd. Stream “Big Spender” below. - Day and a Dream

Bio

Hailing from the Southeast area of Houston, TX Rascal F. Kennedy, has been recording music since the young age of 18. Learning how to craft songs early, he began writing lyrics in the 4th grade. From freestyling his way through lunch in high school to finally releasing his debut mixtape "My Brother's Keeper" in August of 2010. The highly personal project was conceptualized behind the incarceration of his older cousin known as Mallo B, who also is the inspiration behind a track of the same name.

In 2012, Rascal would go on to become part of the BrainKiller Movement, which joins him with artists Judell RomeJ. Whit and Ace Boogie. That same year he would go on to release his successful "Don't Blow My High" mixtape hosted by the widely known DJ Mr. Rogers, who also produced the single "Play It Safe" released after the tape.

Becoming an official SXSW artist in 2015, Rascal F. Kennedy has began to make a name for himself in the Texas hip hop scene. Influenced by true creatives such as Kendrick LamarAb-Soul and Curren$y, Rascal creates a sound that not only moves you to dig deep, but one that is all his own.
