I think that Believers are always living in a state of tension… a tension between spiritual and worldly concerns and beliefs. For example, we believe God for financial abundance knowing that everything belongs to our Father and that he promised that we would have more than we could ever think or imagine, yet we live with the reality of bills and other financial constraints every day. We believe God for healing for sick relatives, yet face the grief that accompanies their deaths when the miracles do not occur. Likewise, we know that we are to not be of this world (Romans 12:2; 1 John 2:15), yet every day we wake up here on Earth faced with the same temptations, burdens, emotions, motives, etc. as unbelievers. The difference is that we know of a God who provides grace, forgiveness, healing, mercy, love, hope and peace in the midst of it all. The artist, Rashad, is extending the mission that Jesus began – which is to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, preach deliverance to the captives, recover sight to the blind, set at liberty them that are bruised, and preach the acceptable year of the Lord (Luke 4:18-19) – through music! The mission in his music is to be able to help others understand and accept all the provisions of God.

The method is perceived as worldly by some but the Bible says this:
“Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.” (1 Corinthians 9: 19-23)

The artist, operating through the freedom he has, is winning hearts for Christ by reaching people through music… attracting them through “street” sounds and (some) lyrical content, but authentically piercing their inner men (and women) with truths rooted in Christ (since this is where the artist is coming from anyway).
