Coming fresh off her break through appearance on NBCs hit show Americas Got Talent, Rashida Jolley is creating a new lane in the urban music landscape. She performed Killing Me Softly on the harp while singing and using the harp as a percussion instrument. The performance was received with a standing ovation. It is that kind of response she receives everytime she performs. Rashida Jolley is on a mission to make the harp an official instrument of Urban/Hip Hop Music.
Rashida Jolley, the singer, harpist and songwriter began singing lead in her church choir at age 7 and studying the harp at the DC Youth Orchestra at age 10. It was her moms idea to combine her singing with the harp. The first song I learned was Stevie Wonders If it Magic. It was then Rashida found her niche. She began writing songs on the harp and started performing across the country. She started being called The Harp Girl.
Her father, the late Noble Jolley Sr., was a renowned jazz guitarist and earned Howard Universitys very first degree in Jazz Studies. He mentored Rashida and her siblings in Music. Rashida comes from a musical family. Her core production team includes her brothers Nathan and Noble Jolley, Jr. who play Drums and Keyboards.
Rashida has represented The District of Columbia (Washington, DC) in the Miss America Pageant and opened for John Legend. Since the Americas Got Talent appearance, she has received rave reviews from fans, the media and prominent celebrities. Rashida recently performed at the 2009 Congressional Black Caucus weekend won the September 2009 Faces in the Crowd Showcase in New York co- sponsored by SRC/Universal Records. It was that showcase which led to recording artist to Chrisette Michele being signed. She also performed at the Ludacris Foundation Tribute Dinner in October 2009
Rashida is currently in the studio working on material for her debut album. She has teamed with Emmy Award winning mixer Charlie Jones new company Urban Melodic Entertainment for representation. In addition to her core production team she hopes to work with Kanye West, Dr. Dre., Rodney Jerkins, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Ne-Yo for her debut album.
