Bio

At 19, Rashida realized she wanted to be a star, but in a different way. She wanted to influence people the way she had been. She earned many awards through her earlier years and also started performing for thousands of people at that time. Meeting Stevie Wonder, Blair Underwood and other great industry influences started the journey. With influences of Bobby Womack, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Take 6, Herbie Hancock, and Ella Fitzgerald, she learned eventually the effects of GREAT music. She joined a gospel choir in 2002 and met Gladys Knight. One evening, after learning some music from India Arie on her guitar, she realized she wanted to "make her mark" through her writing. Shortly after performing on keyboards around town with groups of the likes of Platters and Spinners, she eventually met and performed with Victor Willis, original lead singer of the Village People. Looking at a possible world tour with Victor, there were important decisions affecting her future in music. As soon as she thought she was on the edge of something, Gladys Knight calls and tells her, "I want you to learn my show". It was an offer Rashida couldn't refuse. Today, she is currently singing behind Gladys Knight and has been enjoying the journey. Reflections on the stories told of this legend has refined Rashida's focus to an even better path. You can count on a good story (and possibly a moral or two) through Rashida's songs. "Missunderstood" is for the person too quick to the wrong idea, and she puts her foot down on the subject of being "2nd Best."
