Bio

Nigel “Rashid Amir” Welch Jr. was born in Brooklyn, NY. While growing up, he had early musical influences from his mother, who sang in a band called “Chocolate Fire” and currently sings with “The Great Day Chorale” headed by Louvinia Pointer. He also has two older sisters Natasha (an actress) and Sonia Welch (better known as her stage name eXonda), with whom he often does live performances.

Rashid attended Bishop Ford C.C.H.S where he contributed in the Special Olympics and Christian Service, where he experienced dealing with different kinds of people. After graduation from high school, Rashid attended I.A.R for 1 year where he was trained by skilled audio engineers, gaining experience with both digital and analog audio equipment, the proper steps to take when setting up and breaking down studio sessions, as well as the business aspects of music expanding his knowledge of the industry. With these newly acquired skills, Rashid decided to create his own music. Music with a voice, and with a message behind it.

He most recently performed at ‘Crash Mansion’ and ‘Lefty’s’ alongside eXonda in New York City. He performed his new single “Rushing” off of his self released album “Piece of Mynd”, and has been featured on other singles such as “The Breakdown”(Ayanda Sunshine), “Warning You” (eXonda), and “Wasting Time (Sugaree)”. He has also been featured on various mixtapes, and will also feature on MISC: Let Me Be Heard Vol 2. a compilation CD, coming out in Spring 2008. He also serves as Program/Music Director for MISC Radio Plus and also as a Host for his own show.

Rashid Amir believes that music will always remain a voice, an expression, and a representation of the people. With plans to eventually run a successful record label, and already having the focus and determination, it won’t be long before his views will be recognized worldwide.
