Rashid Soukous

Rashid Soukous reigns from Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa. He is considered as one of the best African guitarist to reign from this area. His diversity in musical instruments and versatility while playing them, earns him the respect of the audience that he has captured over the last 25 years.

His World Fusion style of music incorporates the sounds of Soukous, Reggae, Calypso and High-Life. His specialty, known as Soukous, translates into “Happy Music.” This is evident from the first note you hear. Each live performance is filled with positive vibrations that hit each member in the audience and moves their feet.

Rashid’s musical travels have taken him through Africa, Europe, Canada and the United States. His US debut came in the early eighties with an offer to join New York’s legendary African Connection.

His high energy performances has allowed him to play with the like of Jimmy Buffet, Fela Kuti (African Kings), Kid Creole & the Coconuts, Marc Mazoo, Val Adams & The Exodus. He has played with numerous bands in Seattle since 1989 including African All-Stars and African Roots Band. Rashid has also played at numerous venues, private parties and festivals throughout the Northwest.
