RASSOULJAHS
RasSouljahs is a unique-sounding, five piece reggae band with the dance hall flavor of Fadda Wanye, hailing from Kingston, Jamica, whose live stage performance has to be witnessed to be truly appreciate; the warm, sweet voice of Sister Ladonna; the funky, roots, reggae bass playing of Simba Jahi and Timothy Flynn on drums; and the Nyabinghi percussions of Mike Renna. Imagine a portion of contemporary jazz mixed with R&B female vocals, grounded and rooted in conscious roots reggae; this combination of musical melody keeps the crowd spellbound by the Ras Soul Jah sound. We believe in keeping our music lively, and the concept of bringing people together through conscious, roots reggae music.
The band began as Tribal Culture in the mid-90s, then, permanently changed the name to Ras Souljah in 2000. Members of Ras Souljah hail from California, Chicago, Detroit, Indiana and Kingston, Jamaica and we use supporting musicians as needed. Ras Souljah has over four hours of original and cover songs, including Bob Marley, for any type of reggae audience.
RasSouljahS has performed throughout the Midwest at venues such as Bells Brewery in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Kalamazoo Island Festival; South Bend Reggae Festival; Bob Marley Birthday Bash at the State Theatre, Kalamazoo, Michigan; The Boathouse in Saugatuck, Michigan and many others. As individual musicians, weve opened for internationally known acts including Yellow Man, Beenie Man, Carlton Coffey, Sugar Minot, Everton Blender, Shaggy Williams, Reggae Cowboys, Meditations, Stevie Culture, The Itals, Shaba Ranks, Lucky Dube, King Sunny Ade, Sunny Okuson, Freddie McGregor and many more.
