RAVENS IN PARIS

Tonight, Liverpool’s greatest export since The Beatles; The Real People, graced a London stage for the first time in over a decade, to headline the ‘Leamington Daze’ night in South London. Main support act, Ravens In Paris, stormed the stage with their dark take on raw psychedelic rock. Keep your eyes out for these lads. - This Feeling

It’s hard to believe that London three piece Ravens In Paris have only been playing shows for nine months, so accomplished and assured is this performance tonight. Though their sound is raw and visceral, one would surmise that is down to hours of toil in the rehearsal studio, as opposed to a ‘plug in and play’ mentality. Either that, or they are annoyingly talented.



This is a band in the truest sense of the word, consisting only of the basics; bass, drum and guitar. Bassist Beaz and guitarist Jam share vocal responsibilities, with drummer Dan offering selective and well-chosen backing harmonies. ‘Talk Of The Town’ is a ferocious blink-and-you’ll-miss it thunderstorm, imminent debut single ‘By Candle Light’ could be ‘Motown Junk’-era Manic Street Preachers, infused with the soul and melodies of the Coral.



Stripped down, timeless rock and roll is something of a rare commodity nowadays, given the current trend for all things 80s, and because of this it should be treasured. It certainly stands out from the other bands on an eclectic bill this evening. It is by no means straight-forward or simplistic music though, but it’s delivered at such a relentless pace that it’s almost too easy. You know you’ve heard it somewhere before, but that’s simply because RIP follow the lineage of the Great British Bands.



The stand out track of the evening is ‘Dirty Little Secret’. Rest assured, Ravens In Paris are unlikely to be that for long. Short and very sweet.
