Bio

Over the years, Atlanta, Georgia has introduced its fair share of music superstars to the world. And with the introduction of Ray, that tradition will undoubtedly continue. Coming to Atlanta by way of Monroe, Louisiana, Black Ark Entertainment artist Ray is poised to become one of music’s brightest young stars with his sensual yet hard-edged brand of R&B. Growing up, 21 year old Ray was an admirer of a wide array of artists: Fred Hammond, Shirley Murdock, and Prince, just to name a few. But it was R. Kelly who truly inspired Ray to pursue his passion. "His tribulations sounded like my tribulations. He inspired me to write, sing, and become a hard working young man." This work ethic has stayed with Ray to this day and has only grown as he is equally passionate about songwriting as he is about singing. It was only a matter of time before music industry heavyweights would begin to take notice of the special talent that is Ray Lavender. His tireless pursuit of success gained him the respect of a who’s who of producers including Jazze Pha, Tricky Stewart, Dallas Austin and Teddy Riley. It also gave the world the first peek at his work as he wrote the song "Knock, Knock, Knock" for Gerald Levert's "A Stroke of Genius" album. In addition, Ray has already worked on upcoming projects with LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and fellow Black Ark recording artist Tino Brown.

Though his peers in the industry serve as a major motivator, it is from his life that he draws his greatest inspiration. Coming from a large family of music lovers, Ray was destined for the stage, and the untimely loss of his father motivated him to make a difference, not only for himself but his family. The other inspiration for this handsome 21 year old: the ladies of course. Handsome looks, along with a sweet Southern drawl have made him a ladies man for many years now. "I do know I have always been good with the ladies… Just kidding, but I can be a handsome fellow at times," Ray says with a smile and a laugh. Ray is currently recording his debut album under the watchful eye of key industry heads. If his hunger is any indication, Ray's name will soon be mentioned in the same breath as the legendary producers and writers. Completing his album will offer Ray the chance to show that he is equally passionate on stage as he is on record. "I like to give wild performances and stimulate the ears as well as the eyes." With his unmatched mix of talent and desire, Ray is destined to be the world’s next R&B star. Perhaps he sums it up best himself when he says "All I need is a beat and a chance, and you can write me off in history amongst the stars.
