Bio
Ray Haines hails from Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada. A well seasoned musician, this singer-songwriter uses his homegrown charm to deliver his music with impressionable enthusiasm and genuine emotion. Whether he finds his comfort zone behind a piano or a guitar, Ray describes his powerful yet soothing style as indie acoustic folk rock.
Born to musical parents, Ray grew up in small community of Oakland, NB and has been singing and performing for as long as he can remember. “I started singing at the age of three, piano lessons at the age of ten and then decided when I was twelve to learn the guitar…” Still today, Haines recognizes his parents as the musicians who most profoundly influenced his music. “As a child, I watched and listened to Mom & Dad play at house parties as well as just about every musical event in the local communities.”
Throughout his hometown, NB’s Capital city and into Maine, Ray became a favorite at talent shows, fundraisers and jamborees. From that turning point and with musical icons such as Colin James, Jim Cuddy, Ron Sexsmith and Neil Young, Ray proceeded to become involved with several bands.
In 2002 Ray founded the New Brunswick based band Flat Top, which continues to achieve success and a loyal following throughout the East Coast. Flat Top’s first single “Big Mistake”, written by Haines, is currently playing on the airwaves. Flat Top has performed with some fine musicians such as Colin James, April Wine, Downchild Blues Band and 54-40.
Simultaneously, Ray is the lead singer, rhythm guitar player, piano player and manager for Flat Top. He is also the rhythm guitar player and singer for the acoustic duo Outhouse Door, and makes the occasional solo appearance.
Awareness of his talents as a singer-songwriter is quickly spreading. Friends, family and music industry professionals are anxiously awaiting the release of Ray’s first solo project.
Whether due to his continued hard work as a freelance musician or his emerging career as a solo artist, the music of Ray Haines is not to be missed.
