Ray Mailman, a funk/soul/pop trio from Edmonton, Canada, has transcended the realms of many genres of music, creating their own eclectic style and groove. Frontman of the band, Ray Mailman combines complex chord patterns, catchy song styling and "in-your-face" lyrics that come from life experience, compassion and divine inspiration. Using Funk, Rock, Jazz, Soul and Pop influences in their music, the band’s tracks appeal to a wide range of audiences in their high-energy pop/rock shows.
Ray Mailman’s performances are known for their quirky and fun stage presence and outrageous antics which make every show a memorable one. With Mailman’s sincere charm he personally connects with the audience, giving them a sense of involvement and his band of experienced musicians can satisfy even the toughest critics. Even though each song has its own unique style, the music is always upbeat with lots of clever lyrics and catchy melodies. The band loves to interact with their audience and Mailman carries his awkward charm with him on stage at every show, making audience participation a mainstay of their fun and quirky performances.
Ray Mailman released its first EP, Sideways in 2008, which consists of six original songs of various styles from jazz to latin to rock. Because of the band's wide range of styles, it's difficult to find just one artist with which to compare Ray Mailman's music, but comparisons are often drawn to Jason Mraz, Maroon 5, Jamiroquai and occasionally the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In 2008, Mailman competed in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood and received many awards for his vocal and acting talents. He was declared the overall winner in the categories of Male - Vocal SA R&B/Soul/Jazz - 25&Over as well as Male - Vocal SA Open - 25&Over and won gold medals for his comedic acting, among other things, which only proves how Mailman mixes his comical charm and vocal talents to make for a great show.
