Bio

Legendary keyboardist Ray Manzarek, founding member of The Doors, teams up with slide guitar master Roy Rogers for special engagements. Music fans will dig these two consummate musicians' new takes on The Doors' classics, as well as blues and original material.

Ray Manzarek, keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, is one of the most influential keyboard players in the history of rock. Manzarek grew up in the Chicago area where he was influenced by the boogie-woogie pianists of the '50s. After his groundbreaking work as keyboardist for The Doors from 1965 to 1973, Manzarek produced Los Angeles band X, recorded a rock adaptation of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana with composer Phillip Glass, played with Iggy Pop, backed San Francisco poet Michael McClure's poetry readings, and directed the film Riders of the Storm. www.raymanzarek.com.

As the modern master of electric slide guitar, Roy Rogers has stunned audiences on several continents, garnering sensational reviews at such prestigious festivals as the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland) and Notodden Blues Festival (Norway), and recently toured China and Scandinavia. The multi-talented, Grammy-nominated guitarist, songwriter and producer (John Lee Hooker, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, movie soundtracks for Dennis Hopper's The Hot Spot and Tim Rhys' Men In Scoring Position), "is one of the rare guitar heroes," raved Rolling Stone magazine, "who values feeling over flash." For more on Roy's discography, details on his work with Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Bonnie Raitt, Norton Buffalo and more, check his website www.roy-rogers.com.

The legendary co-founder of The Doors, keyboardist and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Ray Manzarek and the critically acclaimed slide/blues guitarist Roy Rogers have put their artistic minds together and created a captivating new concert experience.

What was Jim Morrison really like? The charismatic story-telling Manzarek will share his personal insights and rock n' roll tales as a unique part of this concert! There will be a mic in the aisle for audience questions. A very special evening.

"Pundits who bemoan the scarcity of guitar gods haven't laid ears on Roy Rogers, whose slide riffs could peel a crawfish!" ~ USA Today

"Many guitarists dabble in slide guitar, but the number of modern masters can probably be counted on one hand, and Roy Rogers is surely one of them." ~ Guitar Player

"He's one of the most astounding guitarists working today...." ~ Blues Review
