Bio

"Ray Materick is a man harbouring a deep well of streetwise perception. He is a writer who can tell the average man's tale with the force of a jackhammer and the sweet words of a poet. And that voice, at once rough, strong and painfully tender is his aural signature. His music stands up to - and sometimes over - the work of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp and Graham Parsons.” Glenn Nott Hamilton Spectator 2005

By 1980 Ray Materick was a respected Canadian troubadour recording star with a debut album on London Records that the Toronto Star called "Just remarkable... the best folk album of the year!" - Followed by a National Top 10 hit and three critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums on the prestigious Asylum Records label.

After stepping away from the music scene for some twenty years, Ray returned in 2003 with the release of LIFE AND TIMES(Linus/Warner Music)
a compilation of exceptional new material coupled with selections from the classic Asylum Records recordings.

Ray’s retreat from the music scene gave him the time and life experience to refine his talents to the point where he is now one of the most distinctive musical artists of our time.

"One would be hard pressed to find a more accomplished songwriter and a more expressive, passionate, soulful voice anywhere in popular music today" Robert Reid the record.com 2007
