Biography

RAY MATERICK... MY OLD FRIEND AND ONE OF THE GREAT CANADIAN POETS... I LOVE HIM
-- Daniel Lanois

By 1976 Ray Materick was a respected Canadian folk/rock superstar with a debut album on London Records that the Toronto Star called "just remarkable... the best folk album of the year!" - Followed by a top 10 hit and three critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums on the prestigious Asylum Records. “Ray was absolutely huge in Canada, especially Western Canada. Dan and myself were in the band when he opened up for Santana. After 3 standing ovations and 14000 people eating out of his hands Santana himself went over to congratulate him”
-- BOB DOIDGE (Owner/Grant Avenue Studios, producer/Gordon Lightfoot)

After stepping away from the music scene for twenty years Ray returned in 2003 to more standing ovations with the release of LIFE AND TIMES (Linus Entertainment/Warner Music) a compilation of new material coupled with selections from the Asylum Records recordings. Ray’s retreat from the music world gave him the time and life experience to refine his songwriting talents to the point where he is now starting to be recognized as one of this country’s most significant artists.

"His singing voice is perhaps the most powerful in North America at this time A voice of experience, strong convictions and wisdom...as well, he has achieved the refinement and maturity of lyrics so rare among songwriters."
-- Canadian Music Quarterly

“Ray Materick Is a Brilliant Songwriter And A Fantastic Performer. He’s As Great As Anyone I’ve Ever Played With.”
-- TIM DRUMMOND (Legendary Bassist with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, James Brown, Jewel, Jimmy Buffet, Eric Clapton)

Bullet of Hate

Written By: Ray Materick

BULLET OF HATE

I dreamed I seen the the moon last night
It was covered in icicles
I dreamed I seen the sun last night
It was shining black as coal
I dreamed I seen a real bright light shining from above
I dreamed I seen a man in white talking about Love

And I dreamed I seen an old enemy creeping off into the night
It looked like Lucifer...keeping out of sight

Kids are going crazy
everywhere you go
Push come to shove,
shove come to blow
They've got the same attitude
as Attila the hun
I talked to a cop yesterday who said
"Everybody's got a gun!"

And here comes old Lucifer stepping right out of the dark
And fires that bullet of Hate straight into your heart....(x2)

I dreamed I seen a rider on a pale white horse
I dreamed I seen four angels flying on a collision course
I dreamed that I seen Jesus and for what it's worth
I dreamed I seen the Meek inherit the earth
And I dreamed I seen an old enemy creeping off into the night
It looked like Lucifer...keeping out of sight

Well what were you thinking,
What did you expect ?
By the time you're finished blinking you're deeper in debt
You're down another dead end and you don't know what to do
I talked to a cop yesterday who said
"Everybody feels like you!"

And here comes old Lucifer stepping right out of the dark
And fires that bullet of Hate straight into your heart (x2)

But don't give up, don't give up don't give up.......

Can You Feel Love

Written By: Ray Materick

You can run, you can hide
And still find evil right there by your side
You can feel anger, you can feel hate
You can feel twisted in the hands of fate

Chorus
But Can You Feel Love
Can You Feel Love (X 3)

You can feel cold in your heart
You can feel your whole world fallin' apart
You can feel pain, you can feel fear
You can feel the time bomb tic-toc in your ear

But Can You Feel Love
Can You Feel Love (X3)

You can the dark closing in
You can feel a long way from Original Sin
You can feel your faith fading away
Even now as you get down on your knees to pray

But Can You Feel Love...
