"Ray Materick - A Rare Breed"

"His singing voice is perhaps the most powerful in North America at this time A voice of experience, strong convictions and wisdom...as well, he has achieved the refinement and maturity of lyrics so rare among songwriters." - Canadian Music Quarterly

"Poet and a Jackhammer"

"Ray Materick is a man harbouring a deep well of streetwise perception. He is a writer who can tell the average man's tale with the force of a jackhammer and the sweet words of a poet. And that voice, at once rough, strong and painfully tender is his aural signature. His music stands up to - and sometimes over - the work of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp and Graham Parsons" - Hamilton Spectator

Bio

RAY MATERICK... MY OLD FRIEND AND ONE OF THE GREAT CANADIAN POETS... I LOVE HIM
-- Daniel Lanois

By 1976 Ray Materick was a respected Canadian folk/rock superstar with a debut album on London Records that the Toronto Star called "just remarkable... the best folk album of the year!" - Followed by a top 10 hit and three critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums on the prestigious Asylum Records. “Ray was absolutely huge in Canada, especially Western Canada. Dan and myself were in the band when he opened up for Santana. After 3 standing ovations and 14000 people eating out of his hands Santana himself went over to congratulate him”
-- BOB DOIDGE (Owner/Grant Avenue Studios, producer/Gordon Lightfoot)

After stepping away from the music scene for twenty years Ray returned in 2003 to more standing ovations with the release of LIFE AND TIMES (Linus Entertainment/Warner Music) a compilation of new material coupled with selections from the Asylum Records recordings. Ray’s retreat from the music world gave him the time and life experience to refine his songwriting talents to the point where he is now starting to be recognized as one of this country’s most significant artists.

"His singing voice is perhaps the most powerful in North America at this time A voice of experience, strong convictions and wisdom...as well, he has achieved the refinement and maturity of lyrics so rare among songwriters."
-- Canadian Music Quarterly

“Ray Materick Is a Brilliant Songwriter And A Fantastic Performer. He’s As Great As Anyone I’ve Ever Played With.”
-- TIM DRUMMOND (Legendary Bassist with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, James Brown, Jewel, Jimmy Buffet, Eric Clapton)
