BandChristianSinger/Songwriter

Poppy, Folky, Rockin' & Groovin' Christian Music. Intense rythms & life inspired lyrics that show the love of Jesus. Taking life experiences and turning them testimonial for the edification of fellow brothers and sisters in Christ & an outstretched hand to those who don't know Him.

Biography

Born & raised in Virginia Beach, VA, I began playing guitar around 1990-1991, determined to get into my brother's band after he told me they'd never let me join. They let me join a week later after penning my first song.

My father is a retired pastor, so I grew up in the church and knew about Jesus from an early age, I accepted my Savior as a child and went a bit astray as a teenager, then after seeing a few things and doing a few more, I found myself on my knees again, rededicating my life to Him.
It's not "knowing" the truth, it's "growing" and "showing" that the truth is in you.
I have played my guitar with a worship team, and performed solos at churches in both the Virginia Beach Area and the Indiana, PA area in which I now reside with my beautiful wife Mary and our adorable 1 1/2 year old baby girl Kailey.

Lyrics

The Captain & The Sea

Written By: R. Bailey Allen

I come to you,
A man:
Lost
And tossed upon the sea.

But if you could find a way
To point my way home,
And shed some light
on the rocks that threaten me,

Then I will praise you more
Than the shoreline I kissed
Long ago when I set sail.
Yes, I will praise you more
Than the shoreline I've missed
Every night the raging waves nearly prevailed over me.

I come to you,
Broken
And tired,
Expired of dignity.

But if you could find a way
To pick me up from this place,
So dark
I cannot see,

(repeat chorus:)
Every night the wicked winds nearly prevailed over me.

And if my faith in you shall stutter
Remind me that your hand is on my rudder.

I came to you,
A broken man:
Lost
And tossed upon the sea.

But you had a plan
To save this broken man and point his way home
through the rocks,
yes, the rocks that threatened me.

So I will praise you Lord,
More than the shoreline I kissed
Long ago when I set sail.
Yes, I will praise you Lord,
More than the shoreline I've missed
Every night that you refused to let the winds or waves prevail over me.

I will praise you more.

Up For Air

Written By: R. Bailey Allen

I start at the top
And work my way down.
When you're swimming so strong it's hard to realize
You've already drowned.

Even with my greatest strengths
My weakness still overcomes me;
My greatest weakness is my reliance upon my own ability.

But without you it's hard to come up for air.
And even if I made it to the surface, without you, there'd be nothing there.
Without you it's hard to come up for air.
So, as my lungs fill with water, dear Father, hear my prayer for air.

I could walk on water
As long as I kept my eyes fixed on you,
But as soon as I looked away
My footsteps, well, they all fell through.

Because even with my greatest strengths
My weakness still overcomes me;
My greatest weakness is my reliance upon my own ability.

(repeat chorus:)

More of You

Written By: R. Bailey Allen

i was running for cover
looking over my shoulder
wondering where to go
it was the middle of summer
but inside i felt colder
than February snow

i was clutching my ego
i was bound & determined
to make it alone
but i finally let go
and was grabbed by a sermon
it hit me like a stone

i'm older than i was back then
more like a child, less like a man
yeah, i finally think i understand what he said
"less of me" means more of you

i was dodging the arrows
that flew like the sparrow
aiming for my heart
on time borrowed
i was dodging tomorrows
that may never start

breathing just to be breathing
with no sense of meaning
with no reason to hope
the holy spirit came beaming
i wasn't kicking & screaming
i'd reached the end of my rope
