Bio

Rebecca Day is an acoustically based, Pop/Country music singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist based in Jacksonville, Florida. Originally from South Carolina, Day moved to Jacksonville with her family in 2002.

Day graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in 2007. DASOTA is a nationally acclaimed school of the arts, with admission by audition. Only a fraction of those who audition are accepted. Day majored in creative writing because she viewed that field as a resource for her songwriting. While at DASOTA, she was the only non-music major to win an annual contest at the school which selects songs for a professionally recorded CD. She composed both music and lyrics for her song, “Things Fall Into Place,” and performed it at various events and venues after the CD was released.

While at DASOTA, Day also won awards for creative writing.

Day began to play guitar when she was young, starting formal lessons at the age of 11. After moving to Jacksonville she began to study under popular music instructor Kent Smedley. Smedley founded the popular rock band Prodigy, recipient of a Jam magazine award, and his students have gone on to play in bands like Evanescence.

Day attended Florida State College at Jacksonville, earning her associate degree after receiving a full academic scholarship.

Day has won open mic contests in local venues like New Orleans Café, and those wins have often led to bookings for her solo act. Day performs at Florida venues such as Mellow Mushroom, Speckled Hen, Seven Bridges, Aw Shucks, The Good Food Company, Cork and Keg, the Riverside Arts Market Main Stage, and many more.
She has had the honor of performing at Jacksonville’s The Landing for a political rally. She has also performed at Jacksonville’s only ‘listening room’ at European Street Café, where she shared the stage with former The Voice contestant, Rebecca Loebe. She has also opened for Indie music group Lauren Mann and The Fairly Odd Folk at Jack Rabbits, a Jacksonville music venue staple. She also performs at private events for places like Ashley Furniture and Aloft Hotel, organizations such as the Arlington Newcomer’s Club and charities such as Relay For Life and Wounded Warriors Project.

One memory that is dear to her heart is when she performed at a local charity benefiting a Jacksonville therapist with a fatal illness.
Day independently released her much anticipated debut CD, ‘Now Here,’ on February 25th, 2012 at Mellow Mushroom Fleming Island. ‘Now Here’ features some of Day’s best original work from 2011. Acclaimed musician, Chuck Nash, is the producer.

She continues to work in Nash’s studio, recording new music set for release in March 2013.

Day is an independent musician and an active member of Nashville Songwriters Association International.
