"Rebecca Farraway: Storm Door"

In all likelyhood, you probably have never heard of Rebecca Farraway. In a strange turn of events based on the best photos we had from the First Night celebration in St. George, the native Utah singer/songwriter ended up on the cover of the January Independent. So, we thought we should give a listen to her album Storm Door released just last year. Our conclusion: You should listen to it too.

As a bored farm girl in Montana, Rebecca Farraway began playing guitar and writing music at age 14. Never having received formal training, Rebecca relied on a passion for music, self expression and self-amusement as the driving forces in her desire to create melodies and lyrics that reflected her unique perspective on life.

Her upbeat folksy style is rather contagious with her catchy lyrics and strumming guitar. A good example of her style is the tune "It's Not You," which is accompanied by a whimsical harmonica that adds nicely to the song.

Farraway later moved to Seattle to pursue her music career, playing at coffee houses, plus Place Market and other local venues. Later going back to Montana for school, her music has taken a backseat to her family.

Rebecca's music is often described as an acoustic cross between Alanis Morrisette and Avril Lavigne. She draws the listener in with her powerful, earthy vocals and thought provoking lyrics.
