In Rebecca Hurn's sophomore EP,Waves, the Porthcawl vocalist sheds her image of a young up an coming artist and reintroduces herself as a matured singer/songwriter ready to share her developed sound with the world.

It is obvious Rebecca took her time with Waves with thoughtful lyrics and intentional production. She has continued to mature musically since her last EP and hopefully this EP will escalate this talented young lady to the heights she richly deserves.

Throughout Waves, Rebecca gives fans a closer look into her life. Whether it’s a ballad or an upbeat number, her vocals shine and her lyrics continue to strike a chord. The added production on each track is equally engaging and, as a result, surely continues Rebecca's swift ascent as a powerhouse in the South Wales music scene.

I highly recommend you get this EP upon release and please go see her live, hopefully at an EP launch. I really hope the EP launch is a full band production launch...that would be something to see and hear. - Robert Hurley

‘Waves’ deliver the most gorgeously written lyrics shrouded in beautiful vocals, stunning strings and soothing harmonies.

I just love Rebecca’s vocals, effortlessly partnered with those sweet string sounds that give me goose-bumps on more than one occasion. Straight from the off, this sounds like a winning EP, potentially sounding like a massive movie soundtrack.

You can really appreciate the song-writing skills throughout this whole EP. The writing and production is superb, everything sounds so crisp, cool, chilled and beautiful.

In 2015, ‘Lions’ gave us a fantastic foundation into Rebecca Hurns’ music. ‘Waves’ really steps up the game and pulls us deeper, into something much bigger, which I’m sure, is destined for greater things. - John Wisner

"She's already eclipsed Ed Sheeran"

Singer songwriter Rebecca Hurn's debut EP Lions eclipsed Ed Sheeran when it peaked at number five in the iTunes singer songwriter chart.

She has also played a high-profile acoustic night promoted by pop star Pixie Lott at a London pub.And she's achieved this despite being just 22 and having only picked up a guitar three years ago.

But most people have never heard of the talented Porthcawl musician.

However, Rebecca hopes all that's about to change after winning the Best EP/Single award for her track Lifeline at the Cardiff Music Awards.

Thanks to votes cast by music fans Rebecca was among the winners in 20 categories at the ceremony, which celebrated the cream of the local music scene.

"To be honest I never expected to win," said Rebecca, who attended West Park Primary and Porthcawl Comprehensive.

"Singer Hannah Grace, who is signed to Gabrielle Aplin's label was also in the category and when I saw that I thought 'there's no chance'.

"I was so surprised.
"I think this industry is so cut throat and sometimes you can feel overwhelmed with how many other people there are out there.

"It's so hard to break through and this award has just given me the boost I need."

Having started piano lessons at the age of six, Rebecca became so stressed out by the exams that when she was 12 she wanted to quit music altogether.

Her mum encouraged her to stick with it, but shyness held her back.

"I used to have to have every door in the house shut so no one could hear me play. I was that shy," she said.

"Then three years ago I wanted a guitar because I love Taylor Swift and country music and got one for Christmas."

Once she had got to grips with the new instrument she pushed her shyness to one side and got up on stage at a local open mic night and blew the crowd and her own family away.
"My dad sent my brother with me to make sure I didn't make a fool of myself and when I started singing he rang my dad and said, 'You'd better get down here, she's actually quite good'."

Having completed her music degree with the University of South Wales Rebecca, who also teaches guitar and piano, went into Northstone Studios , Pen y fai, owned and run by Kenfig Hill multi instrumentalist and producer Jayce Lewis and, over the course of five days, recorded Lifeline with his help.

She now plans to record more music this year and is also being supported by the Forte Project, which gives young artists opportunities in the music industry. - WalesOnline

"Adam Walton - BBC Radio Wales 24/03/18"

'There's a real emotional undertone there as well but clearly clearly beautiful and Rebecca Hurns voice is ,I think, one of our national treasures as it were - and a new one- because normally national treasures status is bestowed on something that's like ancient, but Rebecca Hurns voice has got something truly special - you know- about it.' - BBC Radio Wales

"Brooklyn"

As I write this review of Rebecca's new single 'Brooklyn', she is having a well earned break in New York City or is it a bus-man's holiday?

This beautiful song was written by Rebecca on an aeroplane on her way home from New York City in May.

I am guessing that New York is one of her favourite places in the world and she transmits that love into a stunning, beautiful track that was recorded and produced with the talented Lee House (Amy Wadge/Eleri Angharad/John Adams/Cerys Matthews) who also produced Rebecca's superb EP 'WAVES'.

The single will be released on November 5th and I expect it to rocket! ...Sorry...

The song itself is a pop folk type of single with haunting melodies throughout.
It tells of a love between two people worlds apart but not for long.
Rebecca really has a delicious, goldenous tone in her voice which transmits throughout, and with Lee adding his subtle tone it really gives us a glorious melody.
Joining the highly classified ranks of women releasing music in the more traditional sense, it comes as quite a shame that this song most likely won’t get the recognition it well and truly is entitled to receive.

The way the lyrics are structured alongside the elegant instrumentation, result in the song being so easy to listen to and immediately becomes such a lovable song. - Robs Raw Music

"Brooklyn - Rebecca Hurn"

This track stems from a recent trip to the States where Rebecca attended a song writing retreat at the personal invitation of Judy Stakee a music publisher, artist mentor, author and speaker based in Los Angeles, California, who has signed and developed artists including Katy Perry and Sheryl Crow.
It was the journey home that inspired the song which was penned there and then on the flight back.
The song centres on finding new friendships and how equally exciting and frustrating those friendships can be when you’re separated by thousands and thousands of miles.

“Brooklyn” is a gorgeous heartfelt song with strong haunting melody.

The radio friendly track was recorded at the Woodcroft studios in Cardiff with producer Lee House and backing vocals were provided by Porthcawl singer songwriter Elis Thomas. The track was released 5th November and to coincide with the release she performed an acoustic set in the iconic Greenwich Village music venue The Bitter End. - Francis at New Sound Wales
