Bio

Rebecca Pronsky grew up in Brooklyn, New York and was a typical child of the eighties. She began studying voice with a local New York City rock artist at age eight. Rebecca's first public performance came at a school recital in 1989, where she sung "The Locomotion" in sunglasses, a pink vest, and spandex tights. The somewhat reserved audience was both shocked and charmed by Rebecca's apparent disregard for the conventions of a serious recital setting.

Ever since then Rebecca has continued to sing and perform. She began playing guitar and writing music in high school, influenced by folk songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Patty Griffin. Rebecca continued to pursue music at Brown University, where she studied jazz voice, and majored in Ethnomusicology. Both experiences greatly influenced her songwriting style. Rebecca recorded her first album “Milestone” after graduation, and then moved back to New York City to play shows and promote the record. She is 22 years old.

Rebecca’s sound combines elements of a jazz, folk, and pop. Audiences dig her distinctive voice, which can be both elegant and soft, as well as strong, hard-edged, and powerful. Her songs are smart, straightforward, and uniquely personal. Live performances are especially compelling, because Rebecca shows complete honesty with her audience, and is able to communicate with them as if they were close friends.
