Bio
"After eight years of piano lessons, I still can't sight read, mostly because I don't want to. I have the attention span of a gold-fish on crack. But give me a song I can listen to that moves me, and in an hour I’ll have it figured out."
Born in Ballarat (Victoria, Australia), Rebecca grew up singing in church choirs and began to song-write following her move to Melbourne in 2002, inspired by her first encounters with heart-break, loneliness and human struggle.
She studied social work and completed her bachelor degree whilst working part-time at a private girl’s boarding school. There, her songs became a way of telling bedtime stories, of livening up rainy Sunday afternoons and encouraging creativity in the young lives around her.
Burdened with a heart for suffering people, she devoted herself to work with the homeless, juvenile offenders, forensic patients, and adolescents suffering from first-episode psychosis. Moved by their stories of heartache, grief and loss, her songs became a way to capture and remember them, long after she had moved on.
"Every song for me is a snap-shot of moment in my life where I was moved in some way; a death, a break-up, a triumph, a frustration. Sharing them always feels somewhat exposing...but it's honest."
