Bio

Twenty two year old Rebekah Higgs has already started to make her mark on the local music scene, winning local open mic's and playing intimate concerts to sold out audiences. Those who have had the privilege of listening to her acoustic arrangements marvel at her talent for songwriting and her unique lyrics that set this young artist apart.

Coming from a musically gifted family, Rebekah spent many family affairs singing or playing along on her grandfather's violin. It wasn't until the age of 19 that she first picked up a guitar. Oddly the guitar on which she has written every one of her songs, was a last minute gift from a friend who was moving away and had no use for the instrument anymore. With open arms Rebekah took the Washburn into her care and immediately began to teach herself to play. With a strong backbone of piano and violin lessons the guitar came naturally to her developing into an outlet for her strong opinions and view from which she see's the world around her. In songs such as Somebody Else, Rebekah talks about growing into oneself, saying music has always been my escape from reality, but now I'm singing to find the truth. And realities been catching up with me, my minds been ageing much to quickly for my youth. Her music and lyrics demonstrate maturity in her art, and natural ability to bring personal experience to song.

Rebekah's style of playing has been described loosely as Pop, Folk, or Rock, but it is difficult to tie this artist into one category as each song carries a new twist and an important message. Her lyrics speak about anything from love, life, growing up and the pressure of being a woman in the world today. She continually questions herself (proclaiming her own lunacy) and the importance of art in her life and in the world we live in, taking inspiration from other female artists who have lead the way such as Joni Mitchell, Ani Diffranco and Alanis Morisette. Through music, Rebekah exhibits a unique vocal quality and sensitivity to her surroundings that distinguish her as an upcoming powerhouse of female singer songwriters.
