The Rebel Angels Story

Rebel Angels is a labor of love for some of the best musicians in L.A. They play a wide variety of styles, and are all veterans of the L.A. music scene from live performance, to session work, to teaching. Having worked with each other over the years, they long had a dream of someday getting a group together to play their favorite stuff, and only their favorite stuff.

Then Jules Brown came to town. A native of Mississippi, Jules has a voice that, once heard, is never forgotten. And so the Rebel Angels were born. The Angels began by playiing tunes by their favorite composers, including Jon Cleary, Matt Schofiled, Solomon Burke, and adding in original compositions like 'When The Girl Gets To Leavin' written by Doug (and available to hear on on this EPK).

Jules Brown, vocals - Jules was embraced by the L.A. music scene immediately upon arrival. She started singing in church at age 5, and listening to Jules it's clear that you can take the girl out of the church, but you can't take the church out of the girl. An accomplished songwriter, Jules brings a wonderful depth and richness to every song she sings.

Doug Fischer, guitar - Doug is as close as the Rebel Angels get to having a leader. Doug studied at Berklee College of Music, has toured all over the U.S., and has been an integral part of the music scenes in both New York and Los Angeles. Doug would live in New Orleans if they'd just air condition the joint!

Rachelle Romeo, sax/vocals - Rachelle is a highly sought after multi-instrumentalist and respected veteran of the San Francisco and Los Angeles R&B and blues scenes.
Her warm, distinctive tone and unerring musicality lends wonderful soul to every song the Rebel Angels play.

Shellie Dorman, bass/vocals - Much of the world has had the chance to hear Shellie's incredibly funky bass. She has toured throughout the U.S., Europe, China, Japan, Bosnia and Hungary. In funky music, bass is the queen, and Shellie wears the crown with grace
and style.

Dicken Berglund, keys/vocals - Dicken is originally from Sweden, but it must have been a very funky region of Sweden, because from his incredibly soulful B3 and piano style, you'd swear he was really from New Orleans. A well known recording engineer, Dicken brings his considerable expertise to making sure the Rebel Angels always sound as wonderfully as they play.

Wendell Stroup, drums - If bass is the queen when it comes to music that makes you want to dance, then drums are king. Wendell lays down grooves that make it almost impossible to remain seated. Along with Shellie, he gives the Rebel Angels a powerful, sophisticated rhythm
