"Local Boys Win Battle of the Bands"

Local Boys Win Battle of the Bands

On May 1, the new band Reckless Abandon came on the scene to test their musical talent by participating in the Rancho Cordova Battle of the Bands. Reckless Abandon boys met at St. John Vianney School in 2007. This group of 5 talented musicians began playing together by practicing for a church youth group dance in March 2009. After receiving positive response from their first performance, they decided to prepare for Battle of the Bands.

The band is made up of Stephen Cotta who is the lead vocalist and plays acoustic, rhythm guitar and electric bass. Stephen is a 10 year resident of Gold River. Dolan Jones plays lead guitar, electric bass and backup vocals. Austin Bobo plays lead guitar, electric bass and backup vocals. Jordan Lafferty plays electric bass, keyboard and saxophone. Rounding out the band is Caleb Nunes as the band’s drummer.

Reckless Abandon was one of eight teen bands who performed a wide variety of genres in front of 350 people. After these highly entertaining bands performed, it appeared that Reckless Abandon had a very good chance of placing in the Top 3. When the final votes from the judges were tallied, Reckless Abandon edged out a great band, Advanced Insanity, to win 1st Place in the competition.

First Place gave Reckless Abandon two new gigs for upcoming events in the area. One of these events will be at the premier concert night at Hagan Park in the 25th Annual Rancho Cordova July 3rd celebration. Another upcoming event will be at the Grand Opening for the Mather Sports Complex on June 6 from 11:30-1:30. Come enjoy Reckless Abandon’s wide range of music from Jason Mraz, Bon Jovi, Jack Johnson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Guns & Roses, White Stripes, and 3 Doors Down.

"River Valley band makes mark on local music scene"

When Fourth of July comes, River Valley band Reckless Abandon will be playing to a crowd of roughly 10,000 in Rancho Cordova and opening for accomplished rockers Pablo Cruise. Some of the teens have been playing together since they were 10 years old, and this is a beginning of what they hope will be a long and successful career in music.
This opportunity was made possible by a recent win at a Battle of the Bands where the band wowed the crowd wit their rendition of "Seven Nation Army" by White Stripes.
With Stephen Cotta on vocals, Austin Bob and Dolan Jones on guitar, Jordan Lafferty on bass and Caleb Nunes on drums, the song highlights Reckless Abandon's strengths as musicians and performers allowing each individual's personality to shine.
The group may be young - ranging from young men going into ninth grade in the fall to an incoming college freshman, but the sucess of Battle of the Bands comes afters years of hard work learning to play.
the groups's influences range from Jack Johnson to Offspring to Journey, which is reflected in a set lists that varies from Jason Mraz to Santana. Cotta said they choose songs that they know well. "We mostly pick top 40 songs from a range of decades, " he said". "One of us will bring in a song that we like and the rest of the group will learn it."

Bio

We started playing together at a local church and school jam session at age 13, 14 and 17. We were brought together by a local guitar teacher who suggested we start a band. Our first gig was a church youth group dance which we enjoyed so much, we entered into a Sacramento Battle of the Bands. The crowd and judges responded to our music and we won first place. From that point, we were ask to play at different grand openings, winery events, festivals, private parties. One of the rewards for winning Battle of the Bands was to open for Pablo Cruise at the July 3rd concert in Sacramento. We will be playing the California State Fair and Summerfest along with other private parties in August. Our music has a wide range of 70's to present rock and soft rock. We are all influenced by everything from blues, country, rock, soft rock, folk, classical and religious music. What sets us apart is our wide exposure to every type of music.
