Recovering Musicians – Culture of Hope and Healing

ARNOLD MITCHUM

In his life's travels through the American landscape, Arnold Mitchem has found himself taken from Northern California to North Carolina, the Deep South and everywhere in between, finally winding up in Los Angeles, a touring musician living a hard life that took it's toll on his psyche and his dreams. Arnold Mitchum, has had years in the industry working with musicians from across the country creating and playing acoustic, rock, jazz, and blues music.

Arnold Mitchum has performed with Jeff Buckley, Seals and Crofts, and Carole King and is currently pursuing a solo career, focused on sharing the healing nature of music as he performs across the country.

“I have great hope, having lived immersed in a culture of partying 24/7. The Recovery Road show is a welcomed peace to join musicians and supporters of recovery in carrying a pro-recovery culture into a national tour”

Today recovery has paved the way for a direction in Arnold’s journey. Two acoustic albums and a new energy for daily living, have carried him into touring from a place of passion carrying a message of spiritual experiences, personal growth, and hope for all in his performances.

SELFISH STEAM

Sobriety and persistance has taken these guys on an amazing journey with no end in site. Sharing the stage with Eddie Money, John Sebastion, Aztec Two-Step, Johnny Winter, Ivan Neville, Rick Derringer and many more is a direct result of "Getting Sober" and doing the next right thing.

The ingredients of Selfish Steam are - Tony Marossie (guitar/vocals), Matt Thibeault (Bass/guitar/vocals), Phil Worrell (guitar/vocals), Peter Manning (guitar, synth and vocals), Brian Grismala (percussion) and Perry Rego (drums).

SelfishSteam has been Dubbed by the media as "Friends in Recovery with Music that Touches the Soul". Their all original music is written from their own life experiences. Their music has it's own style. Sometimes, it has no style at all. Whatever the case be, their originality and the fun they have together is truely magic.

In May of 2002 Selfish Steam received a Prism Commendation Award and a Prism Certificate of Merrit (sponsored by the Entertainment Industries Council) for their "Outstanding contribution accurately depicting Drug and Alcohol Addiction in a Music/Music Video Recording. (www.prismawards.com)

All of this may have been un-thinkable to Tony Marossie, (founder of Selfish Steam), twenty years ago......

“At the age of 13, I found myself looking up at the smoggy skies of East LA. Terrified and alone in a place called Eastlake Juvenile Detention Center. I now belonged to the State of California. The walls at the time seemed like they were 40 feet high and had barb wire everywhere. One would think that having your freedom taken away would straighten you out. Not me. This was only the beginning. 1972 and Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll was my out. On my own at 14, I did whatever I had to do to survive. Home was not an option for me. By now, Drugs and Alcohol consumed my every thought. From shoplifting to stealing cars to armed robberies I was doing anything I had to do just to feed my addiction. Back in the system at age 16 I was ordered by the court to join the military the "DAY" I turn 17 or go to Prison. So off I went. January 17th, 1976 I arrived at Ft. Jackson, SC. Little did I know…drugs and Alcohol would run my life for the next 20 years”.

“Now more than ever there is a need for schools to provide their students with the realities of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. It is our hope that if given the opportunity to bring our presentation to your school, we can not only entertain your students with our music, but we can also educate them about the effects, the dangers, and our first hand experience of where Drugs and Alcohol took us and what it took from us. We know for a fact that no matter where we perform, someone in the audience is affected by Drugs and Alcohol. They may have a problem themselves or it may be a family member. If we can help that one person then we are a success”.

"We're no doctors, we have no college degrees, we're not therapists but, this we do have...
A past that we wouldn't wish on anybody, a present that is next to none...
And a future full of hopes and dreams".
