"Thanks to Romulus X Records we received the debut album from Red 13,
"My Bitter Story", and for a first official release this isn't bad or better yet, can I say that this album kicks some brutal ass?
Red 13 is a metal band from New Jersey and they play a mix of different metal styles. Most of the time, they remind me of Devil Driver, especially the vocals done by Tim, but you can even hear some Tool in their music and that's (for me) the thing that makes this release so fucking great!
I always got the feeling that after a couple of songs of Devil Driver I'm still listening to the same song or in other words no variation but with Red 13 I don't have this problem the brutality of Devil Driver mixed with the prog from Tool is so amazing! Really all the songs on "My Bitter Story" are great!
The production is just brutal, just perfect for this kind of music
My Conclusion: One hell of a debut album!

Now, I can't remember if I've featured these guys in my column before or not, but if didn't feature them before, I NEED to feature them now.
The name of the band is Red 13. I saw that they were playing at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, so I went and checked out their MySpace page at myspace.com/red13. Although the music they had up was preproduction stuff, it was pretty good. The song "Failure"had some excellent vocal harmonies at the beginning, it reminded me of Alice in Chains, but then it ripped into some really powerful vocals during the chorus. I love stuff like that! The song "Cutting the Flesh" had some great guitar riffs and was heavy as balls, with some very colorful vocals. Again, some very coll stuff.
Red 13 is combination of five creative musicians who share a passion for writing some really heavy music. They've been making waves in the NY/NJ music scene by playing with some of the areas hottest bands, supporting national acts such as Soulfly, Bile, Finger Eleven, Hidden in Plain view, HED(PE), It Dies Today, Gotham Road, Powerman 5000, Kittie, Ill Nino, Black Market Hero, Blessed by a Broken Heart and Silent Civilian.
Red 13 is currently recording their debut full length CD, My Bitter Story , which is being produce by Max Illidge of B.M.H. (above) and 40 Below Summer, and Micah Havertape formally of Flaw. With names like these at the helm. you know that their debut should put a smile on peoples faces. By the way, the line up for Red 13 includes singer Tim Ostin, guitarists Will DeJesus and Jesse Graglia, bassist Darren Fisher, and Ernesto Gencarelli on drums.

A well orchestrated combination of alternative, metal,and rock, Red 13, makes a listener immediately, become entranced with their unique sound, passionate lyrics, and constant beat. I rate this band a 4/5 stars and recommend checking this band out to anyone who is tired of listening to the mundane infiltrated mainstream sounds that are now flooding the air waves.
