Bio

Redbud hails from Austin, Texas, The Live Music Capitol of the World where you can find a well-know street named Redbud Trail. The band was founded in the summer of 2009 when singer/songwriter extraordinaire, Aubrey Elenz, decided she needed a band to accompany her original songs. After recording an album of original music entitled Name in the Sand with her band of Austin professional musicians lovingly dubbed, “The Creepy Uncles”, Aubrey decided to recruit some band members her own age.

First in, was the very talented Jake “Lady Killer” Hiebert on drums, whom Aubrey knew from high school. Next, on guitar and vocals, came David “BLT” Russell (previously with the band Bodacious Grooves), who was introduced to Aubrey by Tony Redman from whom both took guitar lessons at the Austin Guitar School. Now with a trio of two guitarists/vocalists and a drummer, all that was needed to fulfill Aubrey’s vision was a bassist. But who? None other than Jacob Hope who, like Aubrey and David, took guitar lessons at the Austin Guitar School. He became the last piece of the puzzle. After learning and rehearsing Aubrey’s already completed album at The Music Lab in South Austin, it was time to go on a city tour! Thanks to their relentless perseverance “The Aubrey Elenz Band” tore up the local music scene through venues including Roadhouse Rags, The Saxon Pub, and the Brykerwoods Elementary School Fall Carnival.

As 2010 was nearing its end, apparently so was Jacob Hope’s membership in the band. After Jacob dumped the band via text message, the band was again left as a three-piece with no bassist and no official name. Three new original songs were written collaboratively by the band and when ready to record the band temporarily recruited bassist Rob Roader to write and play bass parts for the recordings. They booked time to record at Sean Rollie’s studio in the Texas Hill Country and in April, 2011 recorded what would be the first three of the tracks to their upcoming EP.

Ready for more gigs, the band needed a new full-time bassist. David knew just the guy! Luis Rangel (also previously with the Bodacious Grooves) signed on to play and sing with Redbud at their next show at JAX, and their first show under the name of Redbud. After having a blast at the show and seeing how magical the chemistry was between the quartet, Luis decided to join as a full time member much to the excitement of the rest of the band. With a full line-up, Redbud continues to play around Austin and even has extended as far as Arlington, Texas. Redbud loves to play and will be there if you book them! They will be recording the rest of their EP in the winter.
