Biography

Following 10 years on the international circuit with vocal powerhouse, FRUIT, the fiery REDHEAD of that superbly acclaimed group brings REDHEAD to the stage.

My name is Susie Keynes, I am a fiery redhead and I confess – I love to rock.

I am a quintessential rocker girl who chooses a guitar for its tone first and then for its colour. When both are happening it is a very good day.

I have notched up a lot of years on the road – the last dozen with the relentlessly dynamic and road wearing band FRUIT. We have toured tirelessly to much of the world, made 8 records, sold around 100,000 of them and carved a life of independence and great satisfaction. That journey is resting for now...

Introducing REDHEAD.

REDHEAD is Susie Keynes on acoustic and electric guitar, CJ Rhodes on bass and Yanya Boston on drums.

A bright, tight three-piece, REDHEAD delivers a sonic punch shifting between acoustic plaintiveness and the explosion of raucous girl-rock.

With the freshness of any young band, REDHEAD combines a bristling energy, great songwriting, ear-tugging tunes, seasoned players and the size defying vocals of a none-too-diminuitive redhead.

With her prime influences tagged as Joni Mitchell and Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders the REDHEAD agenda is to create music that not only rocks the audience, but has them hanging off every word.

Teaming up with UK producer Paul Gomersall (Blur, Kate Bush, George Michael) REDHEAD has just completed the recording of it's debut release. Susie's stand alone vocal sits atop a soundscape that captures gritty brit-rock, breathy ballads and soaring anthemic choruses. Strong songs lasooed by a tight and edgy band.

...In my experience music is a powerful communicator and motivator for change and I aim to write music for the times we live in. If it rocks us, so be it…if it gently moves us, so be it. Ultimately, it connects us.

Great songs, butt-tight instrumentation, soaring vocals and a mission: REDHEAD’s debut album, Ordinary Girl, is scheduled for release in North America in July 2008 and Australia September 2008.

"If it is to be genrefied, let it be songwriter-rock: There are meanings and stories being told here that reach far beyond their ear-tugging hooks."

Ordinary Girl

Written By: susie keynes

Don’t look now
I’m building up to something once again
Would you believe it
Here and now
Sometimes I can be my own worst friend
Who really needs that

Here I am, ready to be given
Open hearted, fallen, forgiven
Clinging to the hope that brought me you, my love

CHORUS
I am an ordinary girl
Living in an ordinary world
How do we live, how do we live to really matter
If we had a love enough for two
Broke a little off enough for you
Would you receive, would you receive, would you receive it

I can tell
Most the world is looking for love
Its not hard to reason
Love, love, love
Imagine if we had enough

Here I am, ready to be given
Open hearted, fallen, forgiven
Clinging to the hope that brought me you, my love

CHORUS
I am an ordinary girl
Living in an ordinary world
How do we live, how do we live to really matter
If we had a love enough for two
Broke a little off enough for you
Would you receive, would you receive, would you receive it

Grow No Older

Written By: susie keynes

I’m looking for the sunlight in your eyes
I like it , I like it
Imprint in my mind
Oh to me you are most everything

We sit beneath an ever-changing sky
Life’s like that, Life’s like that
You understand why
Oh to me you are most everything

CHORUS
come with me
Let our minds run free
Let us turn our chances all over
Say its true
Baby I love you
Till the waves wont roll and our souls grow no older

I’m chasing down a complicated dream
I’m like that, I’m like that
Pushing, pulling thing
Ah to me ah to me ah to me….

CHORUS
come with me
Let our minds run free
Let us turn our chances all over
Say its true
Baby I love you
Till the waves wont roll and our souls grow no

BRIDGE
I had to wait till everything stood still
No breath upon it
To realise the things we had
How could it be how could it be

INSTRUMENTAL

Souls grow no older, Souls grow no older
Souls grow no older, Souls grow no older

I like to find that place above your skin
I like it, I like it
Let no one else in
Ah to me you are most everything
Most everything…Ah to me you are most everything.

Another Way Home

Written By: Susie Keynes

Baby can I hold your hand
Walk you gently through my mind
I been chasing tears for years
It’s like the tears somehow bring me meaning

Tenderness is found down deep
Way beyond the flicker of fear
Something we all hold so dear
But holding back just holds us back from feeling

I know you’re looking for happiness
Your trail’s gone cold
Pretty soon you’ll know when you’re over it
And you’ll find another way home

Here beneath this crazy sky
Pushing through a half-lit moon
Brings us to my favourite time
A dipping light
And soon we’ll be struggling to see

I know you’re looking for happiness
Your trail’s gone cold
Pretty soon you’ll know when you’re over it
And you’ll find another way home

Well stars above there’s a lot to see but
We’ve had enough of it; we’ve had enough of it
Heavy times coming down on me
I am almost believing there’s no end…no end
But for you my friend

‘Cos holding back just holds us back and

I know you’re looking for happiness
Your trail’s gone cold
Pretty soon you’ll know when you’re over it
And you’ll find another way home
I know you’re looking for happiness
Your trail’s gone cold
Pretty soon you’ll know when you’re over it
And you’ll find another way home

Cos holding back just holds us back from feeling

Arrow

Written By: Susie Keynes

Caught within a moonlit night
I cant sleep again
Lapping at the edge of sleep like a restless tide
Don’t talk to the dream maker
He left when the boat came in
And he left me high and dry

I could take or leave right now
I’m betwixt and between
Softened by the irradescent glow
Of your fair skin
Don’t make me a deal
I wont sell what you cannot buy
But I’m looking for a ride

CHORUS
I tell you
I could travel if an arrow
I would travel to the highest like a bird
If I lose you while I travel like an arrow
Well I know that I would fall back to your heart

Isn’t it the sweetest thing
To be kissed by love
Isn’t it the strangest twist to sleep through time
I’m looking at stars moving across this bright lit night
And I’m looking far and wide

CHORUS
I tell you
I could travel if an arrow
I would travel to the highest like a bird
If I lose you while I travel like an arrow
Well I know that I would fall back to your heart

Free

Written By: Susie Keynes

theres a boat on the river
theres a flow that will shift her
theres a boat, theres a river, theres a flow
if that boat was my vessel
and the river my carry
would she go, would she go, would she go?

and we cry for the heartache of the time
we are held by the edges of our mind
there is joy in the moment that we live
and what we have to give, what we have to give

shall we love for no reason
shall we love, shall we love
it is already way beyond the hour
feel the storm of the season high above, high above
there is virtue, there is honour, there is power

and we cry for the heartache of the time
we are held by the edges of our mind
there is joy in the moment that we live
and what we have to give, what we have to give

free, free
free, free

step by step, we grow towards
step by step, we grow towards

let me join in the union
one for all, one for all
from the little, from the little great things grow
we have gifts beyond measure
if we all join together
from the little, from the little all things flow

and we cry for the heartache of the time
we are held by the edges of our mind
there is joy in the moment that we live
and what we have to give, what we have to give

free, free (step by step, we grow towards)
free, free (step by step, we grow towards)
