"Re: Rocket Ship + Soup"

"Rocket Ship, fucking storms a path between the Sex Pistols and the Beach Boys and is totally fucking ace, obviously. The second flipper is also ace, being a jaunty, Blur-ish on the meths with The Small Faces, excellent stuff. These people are brilliant, love them alot and then love them some more! - Unpeeled.co.uk - Unpeeled

"Rocket Ship Single Review"

"A close contender for single of the fortnight, 'Rocket ship' is a very loud and equally catchy old school rock'n roll song. The Dublin quartet take their love of late 70s new wave and New York punk and contort it to deliver a cracking tune that never lets up in pace. The band are renowned for their frenetic delivery and chaotic shows - they have succeeded in capturing some of that energy on record. Singer Ronan Turner delivers some nice 'n' sleazy CBGBs vocal creating, with some help from the other boys, a chorus that will stay in your mind for weeks." - HOTPRESS Magazine

"Rocket Ship Album Review *****"

To launch a CD on the same night as the opening ceremony of the Olympics takes nerve. Red Kid are obviously confident about their debut album and sensibly cashed in on whatever good vibrations lurked around China's most auspicious and lucky day, 08/08/08. Rocket Ship begins, appropriately, with a bang and ends with . . . well, another bang.

Think in terms of Fratellis, Black Crows, Blur, The Beatles and The Raconteurs, throw in a healthy sense of humour and a strong streak of individuality, and you have a good idea of where Red Kid are coming from. Ronan Turner has been described as "charismatic", but a good front- man without a great band is just a show-off. Turner might be that, but Red Kid are a first-class outfit. The rock-pop vibe is perfectly executed, and there's not a bum song in sight, making you wonder where they've been hiding.

In fact, Red Kid have been working their skinny rocker butts off, touring Ireland and Europe, building up an impressive following on the back of their live gigs. Spots at Electric Picnic, Castle Palooza and Hard Working Class Heroes have brought them to a wider audience, and their on-stage exuberance is clearly audible here. There's a strong possibility that the national grid could be fed by the excess energy that tumbles off some tracks, notably Too Young to Die and Luana . Subtlety does not appear in Red Kid's dictionary, but Fake and Saturday hint at a softer side to the quintet.

The unrestrained exuberance in their stage act has been translated onto disc by producers Tony Perry and Billy Farrell at Dublin's Pulse Studios, along with a bit of spit and polish. The stand-out track among an album of outstanding songs is Gaberlunzie , a strange name but a great song; and there is an inspired finish with a homage to The Sweet's Ballroom Blitz in the smashing Paradise .

Are we allowed to say an album is sexy? If so, Rocket Ship most definitely is. www.redkid.info

Bio

Red Kid’s debut album “Rocket Ship” released in August 2008 to critical acclaim, two singles; “Rocketship” and “No Reason” top played songs on
Indy Radio Phantom FM; A hectic 12 month touring; including appearances at festivals such as Electric picnic, castle Palooza, the International Pop Overthrow in Liverpool and After Life.

2007/08 has been the most successful 12 months for the band. They began twice nominated for a Balcony TV award( best band, best live act), two sound tracks for TV Surf Documentaries, two B-sides used on large TV advertising campaigns, and their single, the high octane “Rocket Ship” …

Their live shows have been described as “legendary”, “effortlessly swinging from rock to pop to punk”. Musically, setting out to blend the melodies and back beat of classic pop-rock acts such as Bowie and the Beatles with the raw live energy of the Stones and the Stooges. Throw in a collective love of the quirkiness of talking heads and the velvet underground and you’ve got an idea of their sound. The album “Rocketship” was recorded in the now legendary, Pulse studios, who’s previous star studded artists include Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Brian Adams and Bon Jovi.
