"RLA rocks it at TNT's"

89x HomeBoy Battle of the Bands Show at TNT's

If you really love local music, then TNT’s was the place to be last Thursday as 89X was in the house with the Finals of their “Home Boy” Battle of the Bands, a contest to win the opening slot for 89X’s New Years Eve Bash with Hot, Hot, Heat over at the Dearborn Hyatt Regency. Five bands with a wide variety of music styles ranging from Rock, Pop, Metal, Punk, and even Hip Hop competed for the grand prize from 89X. With TNT’s packing in the crowd, it was nothing short of a crazed group as everyone had their personal favorites with most letting it be known who it was they were here to see. We caught the first act up the week before when they won their play in battle, Red Letter Anthem plays a Hip Hop Rock style that really burns it up as their sound gets things pumping including their fans. Fronted by local rapper “Elementzero”, they mix up the rhymes over top a driving rock beat that is anchored by Josh (drums), Tom (bass) and features the blazing guitar hooks of Shane. Non-Stop action followed as they dropped a six song set that included Illusionist, All The Way, & Freestyle, which is actually done freestyle (with the subject picked by the audience), they even set the Drum Kit off to the side of the stage as the guys take turns ripping it up on the drum riser! I would expect to hear more from this young group as they are readying some new tracks that Dr2 is anxious to sample. Great bunch to talk with too as their feet are planted firmly on the ground. - Detroit Rock Review

Bio

In a small garage of suburban Detroit, four musicians huddled around a kerosene heater on a bitter cold February evening. After about 20 minutes, each one knew they were on to something good. This would be the genesis of the hip hop/rock band Red Letter Anthem.
The guys in RLA began playing music together at their home church as a part of the praise and worship team. The band was birthed while filling some down time at practice with a fun freestyle session. Josh and Tom teamed up to set a drum and bass foundation which Shane quickly peppered with his unique guitar styling. James, better known in the hip hop community as elementzero, began to spontaneously recite lyrics over top of it. Drummer Josh suggested that they all get together and try to successfully fuse the rap and rock sound and write a few songs. Having recognized the positive role music had played in each of their lives, the four friends banded together as brothers to bring their music and a message of hope to the damaged generation around them. The result has seen them rise to the top of the Detroit music scene.
So how do four guys with different musical backgrounds come together to create such a fresh and refined hip rock sound? Easy, we just all offer what we do best says James, (elementzero) who is the lead vocalist and emcee of the band.
Together these four young men combine their talents and energetic live stage show to bring hip hop with a rock edge that is sure to speak to any crowd.
