Biography

Welcome to All, ??More than a mere band, Red Mass is a gathering of artists, musicians and minds from around the globe. The mass was created by Choyce in 2008 with the help of CPC Gangbangs member the Roller as part of the 'Free Creative Entreprise' arts collective (formerly linked to the Seventh Order of Chaos). Its goal is simple…a positive atmosphere for creating, allowing social networking for its members as well as pursuing the ideals of free thinking, the use of chaos, sex-magik and liberation through art. Its sincere yet contradictory, statements may be shocking, pretentious or even absurd to some; they always leave an impression and its live performances are turning heads around the world. After years of preparation and using 'Free Creative Entreprise' collective as a platform, Red Mass is ready for the big takeover.

For the last few years, Choyce has, as one of its central figures, helped to give Montreal's flourishing garage and rock n roll scene international recognition. Having fronted CPC Gangbangs, he now also records and tours with Mark Sultan. At eighteen he and two partners formed Sultan records and then went on to play and record with the Irritations, Daylight Lovers, Del-Gators, Cheating Hearts, Luxury Rides, Les enfants sauvages, Honey and Lies, Milky Ways, Cocobeurre, Bestalita, Mark Sultan, PiPi and Les Sexareenos with whom he released three records on Sympathy For The Record Industry and achieved cult status after touring extensively in Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan. He then formed CPC Gangbangs, whose live act won them the reputation of one of the top rock n roll bands in the world. Bound to implode, the band did so, following the departure of key members and the arrest of a member in the USA. ??And now, the Mass has opened itself to all, with a sincere belief that it can offer young artists and outsiders alike a new haven. With a slew of singles, 10"s, EPs, records and experimental releases, Red Mass is ready to hit. Its psychedelic space rock 'n' roll with elements of noise, folk, punk and electronic music is a culmination of 12 years of hard work. Dark poppy hooks laced with strange sound effects, it is an ode to the past, music for today and the shape of rock 'n' roll to come. Its rotating line-up allows the Mass to tour extensively and consists of musicians from such bands as Fly Pan Am , Black Feelings, Demon’s Claws and Ghost Limbs to name a few. Having blown crowds away at SXSW, Sled, Pop Montreal & North by Northeast Festivals to name a few, Choyce & Red Mass can now offer young artists a place and atmosphere where they can learn how to produce and promote their own art.??Red Mass welcomes anyone and everyone interested in working among its ranks. ??As above, so below? We now welcome you to the Red Mass.

ROLLING STONE (OCT 2010) ---- “Band of the week: Red Mass. aRed Mass puts a dream pop spin on garage-rock rave-ups. “Weird Mess” tears dwon the sock-hop with a Hammond organ and Roy Vucino’s faux-cockney accent, while the hard-charging “Party Till I die”rides a surf-rock wave to hedonistic heaven.” –
CHART (Nov 2008) “Red mass are a transient music collective from Montreal who play old-fashioned, psycho-frenetic garage rock. It seems like the only permanent fixture of Red Mass is former CPC Gangbangs member Choyce, but former Hot Springs front woman Giselle Webber also donned the red garments of rock 'n' roll justice. The tiny Foufounes stage couldn't contain the extended cast of band members, as one of the guitarists spent the set perched atop a speaker, while the cowbell player/percussionist dressed in only underpants and sunglasses perpetually wandered around. If the heavy singles and claims of being "ready to hit" are to be believed, Red Mass could quickly become one of Canada's best rock acts. Besides, Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene have proven Canadians dig the music collective concept.”
THE GUARDIAN (Ian Gittins,Uk, Nov 2008)
“… Both bands were eclipsed by six-piece art-rockers HYPERLINK "http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2008/dec/02/%28http:/profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=404267648%29," Red Mass who featured uniforms and nudity, rockabilly-ed like the Fall with Mark E Smith's sardonic detachment replaced by inchoate rage. They would be a cool addition to any UK festival.”- THE GUARDIAN (Ian Gittins,Uk, Nov 2008)

BROOKLYN VEGAN by Bill Pearis
“Luckily, we also got HYPERLINK "http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=404267648" \t "_blank" Red Mass, who spit, pissed, shit and sweated rock n' roll. Certainly the most badass group to feature a clarinet player. Made up of members of infamous garage rock collective HYPERLINK "http://www.brooklynvegan.com/tag/cpc%20gangbangs" CPC Gangbangs, clad in crimson and about ten strong, Red Mass came off like a Brian Jonestown Massacre fueled by speed, The Sonics, MC5 and the Damned instead of the Velvets, Syd
