"Red Metric Helps Joan Jett/The Smithereens Provide Relief to Outer Banks!"

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts rocked historic Roanoke Island with a pulsing beat that quickly brought fans to their feet. "Shake it, Sing, it, Show it off!!" yelled Joan, and the crowd responded at the Outdoor Pavilion on Roanoke Island Festival Park, Saturday night, Aug. 13. The evening entertainment began with the band Red Metric from Virginia Beach Va. With temperatures in the 90’s and the setting sun aiming for their eyes, the high energy band that was nominated “best metal act” by NineVolt Magazine was charged with warming up the audience. Using a powerful drum beat, awesome guitar riffs and perfectly pitched vocals they got everyone’s juices flowing quickly......

"DIGITONE RECORDS SIGNS RED METRIC!!"

DIGITONE RECORDS SIGNS WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH RED METRIC

Richmond, VA – Emerging modern rock band “RED METRIC” has signed a worldwide distribution agreement with Digitone Records. Gary Gaskin, Director of A&R for Digitone Records, an independent record label made the announcement.

“I’m thrilled to have signed Red Metric to be part of the Digitone Records family. We look forward to a long term relationship and their success as both musicians and songwriters,” said Gaskin

Drawing from the pantheon of great progressive alternative rock acts like Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, & Foo Fighters, Red Metric creates modern rock music comprised of rich and dynamic instrumental layers, moving transitions and provocative lyrics.

“The New World Drama” will be released by Digitone on May 3rd, 2005 and is being distributed nationally to retailers such as Virgin Megastores, Best Buy, fye, Tower Records, and to online music vendors such as amazon.com, i-tunes and CD Baby. Expectations are high that the CD will track well both in sales and the charts. Beginning next week, more than 950 commercial and college radio stations will receive a copy of the CD as it goes for ads on March 24th.

“Reminder” and “Identity," featured tracks on the CD," have had play on numerous radio stations and online sites. For the last two years Red Metric has been nominated as one of Hampton Roads top five local rock bands by the listeners of FM99 WNOR as part of their 2005 Rock Awards. Red Metric plans to release their fourth album in early 2006 on the Digitone Records label.

"Jim Beam B.E.A.M. Grant Press Release"

"Red Metric’s goal is simple: they want to play rock and enjoy it. This approach is lending the newly formed band to shape its sound the best way possible - slowly. Textured with lush guitar hooks, straightforward-rock inspired vocals and an aggressive rhythm section, Red Metric carries a complete sound, but leaves plenty of room for experimentation."

"WRYR 97.5 FM CD Review"

"...after a few listens, and as a more alternative country, power pop kinda music chick, I'd have to say that I really like the tunes. The music rocks, unabashedly...but it rocks much better, smarter and more inventively than a lot of entries in the "Modern Rock" genre. The music makes you think while you're banging your head against the wall and it keeps making me want to dig out my old Tull, Gentle Giant and Alan Parsons Project albums. It's reminsicent, but not a reproduction, of the great progressive "art rock" era of the 70's and 80's..." - Jennie Gundersen

"Ninevolt Magazine CD Review"

"Although Ends and Means is a homemade CD consisting of only four tracks, it has surprisingly good quality. Red Metric is a local band from the Tidewater area with four members, who are all talented rock musicians. Even in hearing the first track, I could tell how much passion they try to convey in their music through their lyrics and melodies. I really appreciate how Red Metric speaks through their music to the audience, especially on track 3 of the CD. The brief guitar riff near the end of the song has a reminiscent tone of the 80's hair bands during a ballad. I believe Red Metric has a talent waiting to be discovered and I wouldn't be surprised if you hear them on 96X or FM99 sometime real soon."

"Measuring Up!"

By Gregg Miliote

Quitting your day job to form a band is a pipe dream for many. But it's a dream come true for the guys from the Virginia Beach-based progressive rock band, Red Metric. All three of the band's members come from engineering and business backgrounds, with lead singer John Tingley working the past several years as an electrical designer.

But things have changed rapidly for the trio voted one of the top local rock acts in Hampton Roads for the second time earlier this year by FM 99 WNOR in Norfolk, Va. With a recently released debut album and a national tour set to start in September, the band is making its first foray into Rhode Island this week with a show at Newport's Area Venue Saturday night, sharing the bill with alt-rock quartet Bodhisattva.

"We're all about to leave our day jobs and start touring full time," Tingley, 27, said during a recent interview. "We want to make a living at this and make a life of being on the road."

The group first came together and realized it may have a future in the unforgiving music world back in 2002 when Tingley wrote an essay and was awarded the prestigious Jim Beam "B.E.A.M." Grant. The grant, Tingley said, provided his new band with the financial resources to begin to make a name for itself. Lead guitarist Tingley, drummer Michael "Moey" Gaylor and bass player Adam Powers had come from the cover band scene when they stumbled upon one another via the Internet.

"We were all in similar positions of not wanting to be in cover bands anymore," Tingley said. "It's been a long journey, but things are picking up."

Red Metric released "The New World Drama," its debut full-length album in May on indie-rock label Digitone Records to some commercial success. First single, "Pink Eye," has been well-received by college radio audiences from Virginia to New York City. The album blends together the bands various influences to create a succinct and insightful rock record.

Tingley said his major influences include bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, U2 and Soundgarden. The grunge influences, though, mesh fabulously with other band members' favorites like progressive rock giants Rush. The debut album also reveals a subtle spirituality, emanating mainly from Tingley's Native American roots. "Ghost Dancin," the album's third track personifies that Native American spirituality with lyrics specifically dealing with the Dakota Indian tribe's hardships in America.

"We're trying to be broad about it, but Ghost Dancin is definitely about my roots as a Native American," Tingley explained. "I try to use my personal experiences when writing our lyrics. Getting that song on the album was a tough sell, but it may be the best tune."

Red Metric also is getting a lot of help from college radio legends, the Pat McGee Band, receiving help setting up their studio, rewriting songs and arranging their music.

"They're great mentors for us. They just heard us play and kinda took us under their wings," Tingley said. "It's kind of surprising because we're rock and they're pop, but it's very cool for us." - Mercury Magazine

RED METRIC was conceived in the spring of 2002 by a group of ambitious rockers dedicated to writing, recording and performing their music professionally the world over. Red Metric has developed a solid reputation as a relentless rock band that sacrifices body and soul for the live show every night. Live performances characterized by extraordinarily high intensity and exhausting showmanship, coupled with a tireless commitment to national touring, have propelled Red Metric to the brink of a national breakout.

Red Metric draws inspiration from rock acts like Tool, Chevelle, A Perfect Circle, Breaking Benjamin, Trapt, Incubus, Audioslave, Sevendust, Tantric, Strata, Foo Fighters etc.

This is not our jobs, it is not even simply whats we do. This is what courses through our veins and sees though our eyes, and as we stand here opposite the satellites we wonder...can anyone even really see at all...We are interested in relating to everyone, quite possibly to satisfy our own thirst for interaction. We are interested in music, in politics, in passion, in people...anyone who appreciates the simplistic and benevolant nature of life, anyone who feels, anyone who is confused, anyone who is trying, anyone who relates to more than just their own pinpoint in time, anyone who tries to see, anyone who questions authority. Breaking the rules for the greater good is the highest level of moral reasoning....

Red Metric is a hard hitting rock band driven by the pursuit of perfection in their music and live performances. This is certainly not a trivial task. But, it is one that simply must be done. For Red Metric, it is not a choice. It is a calling.
