Red River

Red River

BandCountryAmericana

Red River is an eclectic mix of tradional country, Americana, alternative country, and rock. This is the result of the coming together of two very disparate songwriting styles. It helps that the band leaders, David and Michelle (Shelly) Anderson, happen to be married to each other

Biography

Red River is a result of the melding of two very distinct styles and life experiences.

A farmer’s daughter and a son of the city, both halves of Red River offer a unique perspective on Roots, Americana and Country Music.

Singer, songwriter Michelle Anderson writes songs that hearken back to a simpler time that now exists only in memories. Her true country voice resonates with sincerity and emotion. She plays acoustic guitar on the band’s recordings, and once in awhile throws in a bit of accordion.

David Anderson works the magic at the controls. He produces and arranges the songs, while playing nearly every instrument on the band’s recordings. He is a powerful singer and songwriter in his own right, having written hundreds of songs over the course of his career.

Lyrics

Mallory

Written By: Michelle Anderson

SHE WAS A BEAUTY IN HER PRIME BUT THE RAVAGES OF TIME TOOK ITS TOLL ON THE FAIR MALLORY.
FRESH YOUNG MEN FROM FAR AND WIDE
SOLD THEIR SOULS TO TAKE A RIDE JUST TO WORSHIP AT THE FEET OF MALLORY.

AS THEY DRANK IN HER WONDERS SHE PROMISED RICHES TO BEHOLD. ALL SHE ASKED WAS A PROMISE SHE’D NEVER GROW OLD. FOOLISH MEN NEVER FALTERED AS THE DARKNESS THEY COULD SEE
CUZ THE DREAM LIVED ON IN SPITE OF
THE LIES OF MALLORY.

ALL DAY LONG THEY SWEAT AND WORRIED
WOULD IT BE ENOUGH TO WIN THE HEART OF THE SWEET MALLORY.
SHE’D WIPE THE TEARS FROM THEIR EYES
AND TELL THEM PRETTY GOLDEN LIES AND THEY’D WORK HARDER
TO WIN THE LOVE OF MALLORY.
WELL, A FOOLISH MAN CAN PLUNDER AND SPEND HIS DAYS GOIN’ UNDER TO FIND A DREAM THAT NEVER WAS HIS TO BEGIN.
AND AS THE LIGHT FALLS FROM HIS EYES
FINALLY, HE’LL REALIZE
THE DREAM WAS JUST A VEIL OF PRIDE
CALLED MALLORY.

Ring In The Old

Written By: Michelle Anderson

ON THIS CHILLY WINTER EVENIN’
PUT MY FEET UP BY THE FIRE
MAKE A LIST OF ALL MY BLESSINGS
‘FORE THE OLD YEAR DOES EXPIRE

IT’S A MELANCHOLY FEELIN’
WHEN THE OLD YEAR SAYS GOODBYE
SO I RAISE A GLASS AND MAKE A TOAST
AND THINK OF THEM AND SMILE

I KNOW THAT LIFE KEEPS LIVIN’
AND I’LL LET SOME NEW DREAMS IN
BUT TO BRUSH ASIDE THE OTHERS
WOULD BE MORE THAN JUST A SIN

SO TONIGHT WITHIN MY REVERIE
IN THE DARKNESS ALL ALONE
GONNA HAVE AN INTIMATE PARTY
WITH SOME FRIENDS FROM LONG AGO

HELLO, MR. AND MRS. B
WON’T YOU COME IN AND SIT AWHILE WITH ME
AND MRS. B, BRING SOME RECIPES
FOR ONE WHO NEEDS SOME
MR. B, HAVE A GLASS OF WINE
I THINK YOU DESERVE ONE.
AND CELEBRATE THE TIMES WHEN THEY WERE GOOD
AND COMMISSERATE OVER WISTFUL THINGS LIKE SHOULDS

AND WE’LL CLINK OUR GLASSES TOGETHER
BEFORE THE CANDLE FLICKERS OUT
‘FORE YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR COATS ON
AND BEGIN THE JOURNEY OUT
HEAVEN KNOWS THAT I WILL MISS YOU
BUT THIS VISIT HAS BEEN NICE
AND WE’LL MEET LIKE THIS NEXT YEAR
AND REMEMBER, TALK AND SMILE

THAT GRETSCH GUITAR LOOKS QUITE FAMILIAR
IS THAT YOU, ALICE FAY, COME TO DELIVER
SOME CHEESY GIFTS BOUGHT WITH COLLECTED PENNIES
EXCEPT THE LP YOU PICKED OUT AT JC PENNEY
WELL, YOU MADE THE PERFECT CHOICE ONCE AGAIN
THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN TWO PEOPLE ARE BEST FRIENDS.

WELL, I’VE HAD TOO MANY GLASSES
SO I’LL STUMBLE OFF TO BED
BUT MY DREAMS, THEY WILL BE GOOD ONES
OF BANDSTANDS AND BAKING BREAD
EACH DECEMBER I’LL MAKE UP A FIRE
AND SNUGGLE IN MY CHAIR
AND ANTICIPATE SOME COMPANY
WITH MEMORIES TO SHARE

MILDRED'S GARDEN

Written By: MICHELLE ANDERSON

I COULD SAY I DIDN’T KNOW HER
BUT MY HIDDEN HEART TELLS ME
MEM’RIES HAVE A WAY OF STEPPIN’
INTO PLAIN REALITY
AND I FIND MYSELF TRANSPORTED
TO A WORLD THAT I FORGOT
WHERE A FIERCE LOVE GAVE ME SHELTER
BUT LET ME TAKE THAT SINGLE WALK.

MILDRED’S GARDEN BLOOMED
WITH SWEET PEAS AND CORAL BELLS
GAZING OUT HER KITCHEN WINDOW
INTO DREAMS SHE WOULDN’T TELL
WINGS WILL FLY WHEN SUNSET BECKONS
MANY BLOSSOMS STILL TO TEND
MILDRED’S GARDEN WASHED IN SUNLIGHT
YIELDED SHOOTS THAT NEVER BEND

PEONIES AND BLACK-EYED SUSANS
AND A RED-HAIRED BABY GIRL
SNIFFING EACH NEW PLANT WITH WONDER
AS A DREAM WORLD CAME UNFURLED
MILDRED SMILED WITH HARD-EARNED WISDOM
KNOWIN’ LIFE WENT ON FROM HERE
AND A GARDEN BUILT ON GOOD SOIL
WOULD GROW THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

MILDRED’S GARDEN BLOOMED
WITH SWEET PEAS AND CORAL BELLS
GAZING OUT HER KITCHEN WINDOW
INTO DREAMS SHE WOULDN’T TELL
WINGS WILL FLY WHEN SUNSET BECKONS
MANY BLOSSOMS STILL TO TEND
MILDRED’S GARDEN WASHED IN SUNLIGHT
YIELDED SHOOTS THAT NEVER BEND

AS THE FLOWERS MULTIPLIED
WITH NEW COLORS AND BRIGHT HUES
THEIR FACES TOWARD THE SUN
THEY DRANK IN LIFE’S BESTOWING FOOD
MILDRED’S PRIDE WAS OVERFLOWING
AS HER HARD WORK SHE SURVEYED
SHE SAID MY JOB NOW IS OVER
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BOUQUET
