"Xpress Mag Sat 18th July, Norfolk Basement (Black Board Mind Album Launch)"

Red Shoes Boy are a great little band with Gomez and The Black Keys being very obvious influences, but these guys aren’t just another band who sound reminiscent of others. They hold their sound up perfectly live with their diamond-tough, dirty and distorted blues guitars, and together they have it all in their hands on stage to deliver rich and tasty tunes. Fitting within the swamp-rock genre, Red Shoes Boy were quite fittingly the Norfolk Basements Swamp Thursday’s residency band of July, and are another Perth band who relish and roll around in the mud of the dirty blues rock’n’roll scene which soaks much of the city’s music scene at the moment. Cameron Avery presented the crowd a solo tune which he described as ‘a downer’ in the set, but to us it only presented his vocal and guitar ability, which certainly was no downer. Brining out the harmonica for a little stomping; the two last tunes were punched out perfectly and proved that, with time, this band will mature and hopefully make it to bigger stages.

"Shoes on the Right Path"

Bio

Vocalist Cameron Avery feels his writing steers clear of any genre pigeon holes; however it has become fairly apparent to the rest of the band as well as onlookers that his obsession toward Elmore James, Junior Kimbrough, Jimi Hendrix and The Black Keys is seeping into the band’s sound. Clint Oliver’s lead guitar work and resonating vocals have developed as front man for grunge rockers The Four Walls, paired with Bassist Adam Duncan's laid back feel and innovative concepts, the new ideas and songs being produced are definitely coming along. Tying down the sludgy guitar tones, growling bass lines and gain riddled vocals is co-founder and drummer Ashwin Subramanium. Ashwin’s explosivness and attack create an identifiable feel in the bands songs and live shows. The four are to begin recording some initial demos for an upcoming EP at Begerk! Recording Studio but are quite content with the steady pace at which things have been plodding along.

Norfolk Basement Residency

Red Shoes Boy has been chugging their way around Perth landing supports for the likes of Abbe May, The Novocaines and Will Stoker. More recently Red Shoes Boy has taken haven from the rain and cold this month in the Fremantle’s Norfolk Basement, hosting last month’s Swamp Residency as well as supporting Black Board Minds at their album launch.
The residency featured packed crowds for every show, including great shows from The Chemist, The Old Croak, Circuits of the Sun and Mile End & Long Gone Midnight. The Black Board Minds Album launch saw Red Shoes Boy hold their own with the likes of decorated blues rockers The Floors and delivered their best performance to date.

KRAM support show at Mojo’s on 23rd of August 2009

Sporting a packed local crowd Red Shoes Boy proved a fitting choice for the WA leg of KRAM’s national solo album tour. Ending a fury of feedback and howling vocals they more than held their own amongst the Australian rock veteran. Red Shoes Boy will also support “Roger That” on their national album tour at Mojo’s Bar, North Fremantle on the 19th of September whilst also taking part in the upcoming One Movement Music Festival.
