Bio

Red Star Revolt is a progressive rock power trio based in Denver, CO. Formed in 2007 from the embers of another project, singer/bassist Aaron Nava and guitarist Clutch began sonic experiments to stretch their music in a more innovative direction. Having polished their concepts into a collection of 13 songs, they sought a drummer with the elusive combination of musical sensitivity and unbridled firepower. After several months of auditions they found the answer in Dino Cuneo, a kindred spirit who ran a recording studio in the mountains west of Denver.

Released in 2008, Red Star Revolt’s self-titled debut conjures cinematic soundscapes that blend elements of modern and vintage, alternative and progressive, ethereal and primal. Infectious melodies and punishing riffs are interspersed with passages of instrumental jams and space rock psychedelics. Influenced equally by modern rock and the prime of 70’s prog, the diverse material reflects a period of upheaval in the band members’ personal lives throughout the writing and recording process.

Aaron Nava Vocals / Bass / Keyboards

Aaron delivers a strong melodic sensibility that drives to the emotional core, highlighted by a vocal timbre that defies easy categorization. Not limited solely to vocal talents, he simultaneously spins an undercurrent of inventive bass lines that can best be described as Geddy Lee meets Paul McCartney. Aaron’s lyrics show a penchant for the abstract and surreal, yet always remain in tune with the mood of the music. Aaron’s talent has been showcased in original and cover bands, both stateside and abroad.

Clutch Guitar / Keyboards

Clutch paints a delicate collage of atmospherics and chord fragments, contrasted with epic riffs and soaring solos. Often compared to Robert Fripp for his use of effects and reverb-laden volume swells, he typically eschews stock rock ‘n roll chords in favor of more colorful voicings (influenced by his casual study of jazz and appreciation for experimental rock). A Colorado native, Clutch has performed in original & cover bands in the Denver area.

Dino Cuneo Drums / Percussion

Dino powers the RSR juggernaut, alternating between power grooves and flashes of ambidextrous virtuosity. With an extensive background in rock and jazz drumming, his intricate patterns propel the music through a landscape of varying time signatures. Hailing from a family of musicians, Dino counts himself fortunate to have received drum lessons from the great Buddy Rich at an early age, as well as the opportunity to sit in with Carlos Santana in concert. Dino has also produced instructional books and DVDs.
