Bio

Philippa Reed and Chris Maxfield began their musical collaboration in 2003 with the aim of writing songs for other artists to perform. The resulting body of work - an ongoing Songbook - is an eclectic reflection of their combined influences and talents. The Reed Maxfield sound is threaded by their emotive sense of storytelling, love of harmonies and ear for melodic hooks. Reed Maxfield draw on a wide range of influences. These stretch from country-rock / Americana and the singer songwriter genre; 60’s / 70’s west coast rock/pop, and all the way back to 50’s rock & roll. Harmonies and melodies play a big part in their inspiration, taking cue from artists such as Fleetwood Mac / Buckingham Nicks, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, and Crosby Stills & Nash. "We let the songs come through a natural process and follow our instincts." Say the duo. "We’ve discovered that songs find their own form and style, so the end result is often surprising, and exciting to us. The key thing for us is to tell a fully-realized story and create a vibe around that."
