"Jeff McClusky & Associates Review-Rehya Stevens"

…”Rehya’s songs fill the void of intelligent pop that can fit radio and film/TV. Her vocals are engaging and she is an innovative self-starter, which is so necessary in today’s music world. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious.” - Jeff McClusky & Associates

REHYA STEVENS

.
Singer/songwriter/pianist Rehya Stevens with her distinct vocals delivers self-penned songs that are the rare combination of mainstream Pop/R&B/Soul, with an earthiness reminiscent of singer songwriter, Carole King. Her melodies are catchy, while her lyrics are resplendently relatable in their honesty. What is refreshing about her is a viewpoint that is clearly positive and authentically sincere. With Rehya Stevens, what you hear is who she is. She has a candid quality in her writing and delivery that makes you trust her as an artist, because you can.

Born in Pasadena, California, Rehya was raised with a rich musical backdrop. Rehya’s father (Peter Martin), being a highly accomplished Jazz and R&B keyboardist and composer, played gigs that ranged from playing $50 a night dive bars, to working as a composer/conductor for Walt Disney, Inc… writing scores, orchestrations and arrangements for Disney’s television shows and movies. Seasoned professionals from a myriad of trades; engineers, producers, musicians, singers, and songwriters infiltrated the household and were an integral part of Rehya’s formative years as an artist in bloom. Rehya witnessed the nature of the (often) feast or famine life of an artist. Nonetheless, it was inspirational, and swirling with creativity.

Encouraged and nurtured in her artistry, from the age of 5 years old Rehya began the learning curve of what would become a strong musical foundation. In her bedroom, surrounded by 5 or 6 tape recorders, she would write pop songs, and attempt to songs she had written. After school, piano lessons and practicing were part of an every day regime. By the time she was a teen, Rehya was performing regularly in local R&B and Jazz clubs. During these years, Rehya learned the art of singing with the kind of soul that could captivate and draw large audiences, performing songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Pearl Bailey, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, and Stevie Wonder. During those years, Rehya cultivated a style of her own that is apparent in her signature vocals today.

At the age of 22, Rehya graduated with honors and with a financial reward from the pop keyboard training program at The Musician’s Institute. She was honored by the faculty, who named her “The most motivated and improved student to graduate from the K.I.T. department.” Motivated indeed, Rehya formed a band with her peers, and recorded a 6 song EP that started her on the journey of building an impressive catalog that has since gotten her through several doors in her performing and songwriting career.

Not unlike Carole King, Rehya writes for herself as an artist, as well as for others. Artistically, her style as an artist is clearly blue eyed soul; a’la Carole King meets Lisa Stansfield. As a songwriter without exclusivity of genre, Rehya writes prolifically in the genres of Pop/Country and Americana. Rehya’s songs are pitched for artist placements such as, but not limited to; Kelly Clarkson/Carrie Underwood/Sarah Evans/Martina McBride/Wynona Judd/Juliana Hough/Faith Hill.

During the years of 2007-2010, Rehya spent her time writing songs for Paramount Pictures under the music supervision of Randy Spendlove for the film projects, “Maggie Lynn” (directed by Craig Brewer) and “Footloose 2.” Recent song placements include the song titled “Don’t Interrupt,” featured on the TNT show, “Hawthorne” (staring Jada Pinkett Smit
