(Pop-rock) "Remington" Remington, independent recording. Syracuse native Greg Evans has teamed with some interesting musical friends in Manhattan.

Aside from his jazz studies at the Manhattan School of Music, drummer Evans has joined with guitarist Ross Mintzer and singer/bassist Mike Thurber in Remington.

The trio's debut EP explores new turf with a wallop.

The five original songs are part rock, part pop, part techno, part dance and totally hip.

The best are "New Blues," as radio friendly as can be, and "See You Again," ripping and hard as Thurber sings, "And what is there to say about it? And what is there to do about it?"

No wonder the band is landing Big Apple gigs all over the place.

Check out Remington

It's pouring on a hot summer night, and you're speeding in a car beneath the bright neon lights of downtown NYC. Even though it's raining like mad, you have the windows rolled away and you're hanging your head out - singing at the top of your lungs about how great life is. You're doing this because you're high on life, drugs or both because of the latter.

This is what it feels like to listen to the music of Remington, an energized dance-pop rock trio out of the Big Apple. Comprised of Ross Mintzer (related to the great jazz big band composer/arranger Bob Mintzer), Mike Thurber, and Greg Evans, they each bring their highly individual sounds into a homogenized mix of driving electricity - a sonic Red Bull that makes you want to get down. The backbone of the buzz is the relentless drumming of Greg Evans, who reaches back to the sounds of Club 54, encased in the wash and sizzle of endless cymbal texture. On bass, Mr. Thurber keeps pace with rock contemporaries, and makes sporadic visits to the realm of Bootsy Collins-esque 70s funk, all without losing the wholesome dance flavor of the group. Soaring on top is Ross Mintzer's far from perfect, burlesque, but fantastically characteristic vocals complimented by good-times/bad-times, real-life lyrics that portray images that are neither supremely idealistic nor morbidly realistic. Remington has brand new sound, paying dues to history while standing on the edge of hip.

The band is currently unsigned, but growing. They have released one EP: Songs For Our Friends. They are about to launch a spring tour, after which they will begin recording their first full album. Check 'em out.

"Larchmont Gazette"

For the first time, the Walkathon hosted the bands of MHS alumni in addition to current student bands. Quintus and Remington, with MHS alumni Reuben Chess and Ross Mintzer, wowed the crowd. "The last time I was here I was making up a gym class," Reuben joked with the crowd during Quintus' set.
Matt Lipkins was among the current MHS students entertaining the crowds at the walkathon.
For the alumni band members, this Walkathon was a homecoming in more ways than one. The two musicians had played together during their high school days, in a band named Dr. Meeker, and they had performed at the very first Walkathon. Both seemed to be having a great time as they played, and students appeared to reciprocate the enthusiasm. "It was great to see all the different bands playing," said sophomore Alex Lubben. "Everyone was really enjoying them."

Bio

Remington is a New York City based power trio (guitar/vocals, bass/vocals, drums) named after the late, Chicago based pianist/trombonist, David Remington. Remington began in 2003 when Mike Thurber (bass/vocals) and Ross Mintzer (guitar/vocals) first met while attending the Interlochen Arts Academy where they were studying double bass and saxophone respectively. Immediately sensing a unique musical chemistry, the two began to perform at concerts halls across the country. In 2005, they moved to New York City to continue their music studies at The Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of music. It was there during their first year in the city that they met Greg Evans (drums) who was also a student at Manhattan School of Music. Once again, a phenomenal connection was made. With Greg, the group dynamic was completed, and Remington in its current day form was born.
Remington has released two recordings, "Songs For Our Friends EP"(2006), and "Thank You Mr. Remington..."(2007). Whether in group form, or individually, Remington has performed with artists such as Chick Corea, Bela Fleck, Russell Batiste, Eric Marienthal, Peter Erskine, Twilight Sad, Jennifer Sanon, and Jonathan Batiste at colleges and venues such as Carnegie Hall, Disney Recital Hall Los Angeles, The Blind Pig (MI), Castaways (NY), and The Bowery Poetry Club (NYC).
Musically, the group pulls from a large and eclectic span of sounds. Influenced by artists like Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, Daft Punk, Jimi Henrix, and Kings of Leon, Remington plays an original rock sound that acknowledges the rich history of western music that has come before it. The strongly individual sound and unique life perspective that each member brings to the table through their respective instrument creates a focused, yet spontaneous sound that is rich with energy and emotion. With its "Heart Hand" logo as its shield, the bittersweet emotions of daily life as inspiration, and music as its voice, Remington works hard day and night to make the best product it can, and ultimately, to become a powerful voice in both art and society.
