Another female emcee? Okay we know what you're thinking… Hold that thought. With the industry changing, it's hard to take a chance on anyone. But, what happened to the superstars that people wanted to be and believed more than just their catchy single or marketing plan? What's going on in the industry right now isn't working because there are very few looking to excel where their contemporaries have failed; with pure talent and good old fashion personality.

Renaissance, born Shawna She’rry Hoard December 2, in Pittsburgh, PA (She now resides in Philadelphia), became relentless in finding the perfect flow after she saw how sexist the game is. “I took the approach that I have to be undeniable lyrically to really get respect.” She succeeded by mastering multi-syllabic rhyme patterns and the art of becoming another instrument within the music. Renaissance, which by definition is a rebirth of classic art and revitalization of culture, was chosen as her name to reflect the more insightful, meaningful and passionate direction she's hoping to sway the industry. Please don't mistake her direction and lyrical skills for not being able to make popular music. Not only are her songs catchy, she is also a trained dancer, not to mention easy on the eyes.

Making her music very personal with honest explanations about herself and life’s journeys, with a twist of storytelling scenarios was her goal from the start that she feels she is now accomplishing. "The industry needs a female version of what Kanye did for hip-hop back in 04' - tell the real chicks story..." If you listen to songs like “Belong” you will hear a trendsetter for this generation as she makes herself vulnerable by pointing out her own flaws and insecurities. Not something skilled emcees do often. And if you question her skills… jump to tracks like “That’s What I Get” where she rhymes, “Cats say that I’m conceited cause they think I'm the shit/Guess I shouldn’t be so damn dope - that’s what I get” with a cadence that makes it fact that “that chick can spit” which she’s surely making her brand slogan… “It’s the dichotomy that makes life so beautiful. People run away from their different sides because they think they have to be the same person or artist all of the time. That’s not life. That’s not me. So that could never be my music. I am my experiences: all of them.”

Focused on making music to wake up a dormant industry, Renaissance recently self-released her 1st mixtape "Good Credit; No Co-sign needed" where you can hear on 8 tracks (both original as well as industry beats) how she will soon cement her name in this game. She also produced, choreographed & directed her first music video off the mixtape which is getting much acclaim . When asked, “do you want to get signed?” She simply delivers “If you build it they will come. Getting signed isn’t my goal. Making authentic music is. And if I build it they will come…” Let’s just say… It’s definitely being built!
