The band 'Solaris' (after the Tarkovsky film), based in Paris, France, was founded in 2013 by the composer/wind instrumentalist Renaud-Gabriel Pion, and includes Or Solomon and Ze Luis do Nascimento. Together they play a new sound: 'Minimalist Jazz'. Instrumentation: wind instruments/electronics, percussions and piano.
RGP has performed and recorded with numerous artists, as well as released music of his own (albums First Meeting, Paradise Alley, Qalandar and New York Sketches). He was an original member of the world-music band Lo'Jo, and plays wind instruments (bass clarinet, saxophone, English horn, flute and electronic woodwind), piano, and writes orchestral music. He has worked with the likes of John Cale, Omar Sosa, Titi Robin, Arto Lindsay, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Bjork, Elvis Costello or Antony & the Johnsons.
RGP teamed up with the pianist Or Solomon, from Tel Aviv, who was trained classically, then moved on to writing and improvising music and has worked with artists such as Magic Malik.
The third bandmember, the percussionist Ze Luis do Nascimento, from Salvador de Bahia, has also worked and toured internationally with Titi Robin, Mayra Andrade or Hamilton de Hollanda.
'Solaris' have played around France since they started, and they were in a residency supported by the jazz venue Le Pannonica with financial help from the Sacem, in October 2013. They are now preparing to record their first album in May, for a release in September 2014.
