It’s been proven through artist like Jay-Z, T.I., & 50 Cent that music consumers are drawn to and buy into relatable “real” life stories. Well it doesn’t get any more real than this one. Walk in the shoes of RenCen (native Detroiter/ birth name “Quemasi D. Hickerson”.) He has been through everything from tragedy to triumph via seeing his father die at 5, to entering fatherhood himself at 15, to a shortened military term, to burglary & robbery, to a few short jail visits, to homelessness, to major concerts, to being robbed for a recording studio, to rising and becoming part owner of a multimedia company/ magazine, and a well respected artist/ record label CEO (Black S.O.C.S. Ent.) “Using my life to instill hope & determination is my personal theme & goal with my music.” RenCen’s album to come entitled “Size 10” is just that. “For the duration of my album you’ll be able to walk in my shoes”

From countless performances, RenCen has grown to be Detroit’s most requested showcase and party host. He’s hosted or performed on stages as little as local open mics to large venues with the likes of Jewels Santana, Too Short, UGK, & other national artist. He’s been booked to perform in various states across the country (West Virginia, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, and Illinois.) “Money is the main obstacle that most independent artist has a hard time over coming. So instead of paying a contractor for services needed to put together my albums, I grinded and bought all the equipment and did it myself.” He later merged companies with business partner/ friend King Ray and they became one of the major players in the promotions/ multimedia/ manufacturing industries. “Record sales has been taking a major blow and companies are cutting back on their spending dollars. That makes it even more important for an artist to be more self-sufficient. Not only is it going to be a good move to work with me because of talent and marketability, but I’m also a better move economically. Smaller budget......bigger profit.” RenCen’s company (Thinkers Lab) provides recording, mixing, mastering, music production, writing, photography, graphic designs, cinematography, image consulting, CD manufacturing, street & internet promotion, and publications (TEQ Magazine.)

The album Size 10 is a commercial blend of hip-hop, pop culture, rebellion, soul, dance, and euro-funk with a twist of hardcore. DJ DDT of WJLB FM98 said: “this is the most entertaining, adventurous, suspenseful, amusing journey that I’ve ever listened to. Renny has very big shoes to fill. Everyone should try on these shoes and have a better appreciation for life.”

To sum it all up, this one man can at an industry level write, produce, mix & master the album, throw the concert, host it and perform the songs, style himself, do the photography, design the advertisement, press the album and advertisement items, shoot & edit the video, promote the project, be the artist, and still find time to be a father.
