Midwestern sweetness with a little sass on the side. Singer/Songwriter and Berklee College of Music graduate, Renee Herman's border crossing vocals spin tales of truth, intamacy and hope.

Biography

“I’m a Katie-girl, I wear sweat and pearls, if you can dance with your demons, well come and give me whirl”. Singer/songwriter Renee Herman is that friend who will tell you the truth even if it makes you laugh, cry and think more than you wanted to. Drawing you in by leading you upward and outward, her honey sweet vocals infuse her performance with intimacy while her classically trained range and Etta James sass add power and grit to her Midwestern charm. Having lived and performed in small towns and big cities from coast to coast, Renee’s border crossing voice brings the fresh perspective of “all sides” to her music. A natural storyteller, inspired by socially aware wordsmiths Holly Near, Dar Williams, and Tracy Chapman, Renee’s articulate lyrics tell of her own search for balance between action and understanding, love and honesty, realism and hope. She weaves her listeners into this conversation with humor, seduction, and trust.

Runner up for the 2008 Singer/Songwriter Awards (wearelistening.org), Singer/Songwriter’s Studio, Singer of the month, and Berklee College of Music graduate, Renee is currently promoting her debut EP, Katie-girl, as well as working on her first full length albulm. Renee also coordinates benefit concerts for local non-profit organizations and is currently living, performing, and learning from the wealth of talent and heart found around her native Northern Michigan.

Lyrics

Malibu Light

Written By: Renee Herman

Verse 1:
Million dollar homes,
billion dollar dreams,
the other half is not all that it seems.
Where the ocean sparkles like the night on fire,
the beaches are glistening with sweat and desire,
and the troubles of damn daily life
seem to fade, when Zumas in sight.

Chorus:
Malibu light, is sweeter than wine,
the rush of the waves,
the pull of the tide,
a lover's embrace that fades to a sigh...
that Malibu light...

Verse 2:
And the answers are written on the sky today,
painted across the blue,
they slowly fade away.
Transient as a star I walk this beach alone, longing for the gentle life of water, salt and stone
oh and the mountains,
that fade in the night,
seem to glow with daydreams,
just out of sight.

Chorus:
Malibu light is sweeter than wine,
the rush of the waves,
the pull of the tide.
A lover's embrace, that fades to a sigh... that Malibu light...

Bridge:
You are soft and sweet as home,
comforting, welcoming,
but not mine...

Chorus:
Malibu light is sweeter than wine,
the rush of the waves,
the pull of the tide,
A lover's embrace, that fades to a sigh...that Malibu light...

Room For Two

Written By: Renee Herman

Soft winds,
dancing through the trees
and on the breeze I hear your sigh,
your good-bye.

Lost words,
echo through my mind
and now I find that I'm alone,
but I'm all right.

Cuz, I found a place
I can call my own
this pretty little space,
this heart that I call home
and there might be room for two
one day...

Bitter days,
had caught me in a cage
filling every page of this long,
long lost life.

But now,
I'm looking to forget
letting go of regret and holding on
to faith, with all of my might.

Cuz, I found a place
I can call my own.
This pretty little space,
this heart that I call home
and there might be room for two
one day, one day....

I've been looking for so long
for what went wrong
I've been trying to find
some peace of mind
I've been thinking it's time
you know, I've let go...

I found a place I can call my own
this pretty little space
this heart that I call home
and there might be room for two
one day, one day...

The Sniper Song

Written By: Renee Herman

(Verse)

Witches, ghosts and golblins
creatures of the darker side
never really touch the fear of
empty streets and the news at night

What weapon shall I fashion
and carry in my keep
to ward off all the evil
that within you sleeps

Who never took your fevered hand
to calm the shake inside
who never drew you from the dark
to soothe the pain you fight

(Chorus)

Anger seeps,
emptiness sways
faces dissappear
but your power stays

(Verse)

Silver bullets, holy water
pierce the flesh and make it clean
but what can heal the tangled mind
that's never beauty seen

How did we lose you
and where is the shame
from a world that breeds it's demons
but looks for anyone else to blame

Is there no answer here
when will we learn
If you help create another
will we watch that fire burn

(Chorus)

Anger seeps
emptiness sways
faces dissappear
but your power stays

(Bridge)
The world seems eager for your vanity
The guilt pleasure of your inhumanity
Who's the sacrifice for your sanity
Aren't you the victim of this tragedy

Witches, ghosts and goblins
creatures of the darker side
never really touch the fear of
empty streets and the news at night

C'mon Ladies

Written By: Renee Herman

We've been holding the weight of the world in our arms since the start of time.
Watching, rocking and cryin' and grievin' every soldier that's fallen behind.
We know the game of the knights and the kings and the plays of this dangerous dance.
But the board will always fall to the queen, in the end there's no second chance.

So bring your truth, bring your name, bring your strength, bring your pain. Bring you peace but bring your rage, c'mon ladies, it's time to take the stage.

We are viscious, malicious and tender, we sisters, we angels, we whores.
As cruel and cunning as any dictator we fight in our femine wars.
We're drunk with knowledge but blind to the truth that's it we who are keeping us down.
Cuz it takes courage to look in the mirror and take all the power you've found.

Well it's not the want, but the need, not the earth but the seed. And not the boys agains the girls, but the balance, that will change this world.

It's a viscious circel, that keeps spinning round. We offer up our children, just to put 'em back in the ground. And it's a waste and sorrow, that we can't forget. We've got to break this cycle of revenge, and regret.

So bring your hearts, bring your minds, bring the voice you've left behind, and take the roll you were meant to play, c'mon ladies, it's time to take the stage.
